India's former fielding coach, T Dilip, is expected to rejoin the national team. A report from Cricbuzz claims that Rohit Sharma is supporting the decision in addition to the board's.
According to the story, the senior batter "personally requested" that Gautam Gambhir and the BCCI change their minds on Dilip, which led to the Hyderabad-based coach receiving a one-year extension.
The team's majority support staff was cleaned
Only a few weeks after his departure was thought to be final, T Dilip will now travel with the Indian squad around England.
T Dilip, batting coach Abhishek Nayar, and a few other support staff members were initially informed that their services would no longer be needed after May.
According to reports, Gambhir preferred a slimmer backroom team; hence, the BCCI had communicated that the contracts would not be renewed.
T Dilip reappointed as fielding coach after Rohit Sharma personally requested Gautam Gambhir
Given the tight working relationship that Dilip and Nayar had with Rohit Sharma, the dismissal has drawn criticism. Dilip's situation took a turn for the worse, while Nayar went on and returned to his position with the IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders.
In conversations with Gambhir and senior board executives, Rohit is thought to have persuasively argued for Dilip's return despite his retirement from Test cricket. It appears that his plea was too important to ignore.
“Dilip is a good coach who served the team well for over three years (from 2021). He knows most of these cricketers very closely. So, to have him on board for a big series (vs England) will do the team only good."
"So, there is no point in bringing in a fresh name at this stage, and Dilip is very popular with players too,” a source close to the development told news agency PTI.
BCCI struggling to find Dilip's replacement
Dilip's systematic approach and emphasis on game-specific routines have earned him widespread respect in the Indian dressing room.
With Virat Kohli and Rohit both ending their Test careers earlier this month, his comeback is viewed as a stabilizing move for a team going through a major transitional period.
Originally predicted to take over as fielding coach, Ryan ten Doeschate will now remain an assistant coach. Dilip can keep his comfortable position as a result.
