The fact that Rohit Sharma was receiving all the recognition and credit for the Mumbai Indians' stunning 12-run victory over the Delhi Capitals in the 29th game of the current IPL 2025 on April 13, rather than Hardik Pandya, infuriated former Indian cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Sanjay Bangar.
Hardik Pandya issued the order, and Karn Sharma carried it out, thus, the two deserve far more credit for the Mumbai Indians' victory, according to commentators Sanjay Manjrekar and Sanjay Bangar. They felt it was unjust that Rohit Sharma was making headlines for the tactical move.
The Mumbai Indians' bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, was observed talking with Rohit Sharma, who was replaced as an Impact Player in the second innings by Karn Sharma.
After that, he sent the advice to Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach, who at last urged captain Hardik Pandya to use the new ball to bring Karn into the attack. This worked incredibly well for them.
Rohit Sharma is being credited for MI breaking DC’s winning streak in IPL 2025
Rohit Sharma ensured that MI benefited from the bowling sides' luxury of changing the ball after ten overs in night matches to deal with the dew. In Delhi, Karn dismissed Naman Dhir with the second ball, followed by KL Rahul in the following over.
Before MI's 12-run victory over DC in the IPL 2025 was secured by three consecutive runouts, this drastically altered the momentum.
Fans began praising Rohit and calling for his return as captain as soon as Mumbai broke Delhi's winning streak. Rohit Sharma, who was previously dismissed for just 18 runs off 12 in the match, has been making waves on social media and is receiving all the credit for MI's victory over DC because of his tactical shift.
Spotlight should really be on Karn Sharma and Hardik Pandya: Sanjay Bangar
However, Sanjay Manjrekar and Sanjay Bangar raised a valid point and called for what Hardik deserves as captain.
“Yes, Rohit played a part in the victory, but the spotlight should be on Karn Sharma and Hardik Pandya. Karn is the one who executed the plan, and Hardik was the guy giving the orders,” Sanjay Bangar said on Star Sports.
Entire credit for this victory should go to Hardik Pandya: Sanjay Manjrekar
In the end, Sanjay Manjrekar stated that if anyone deserves to be credited for MI’s brilliant turnaround, it should be captain Hardik Pandya.
“There are many people who are there to give suggestions, but it all depends on the person in the middle who has to make the decision. He (Hardik) listened to the advice (from Rohit) is the biggest thing. If you give Rohit credit here as well and not Hardik Pandya, it would be the wrong thing. If the suggestion had failed, you would've blamed Hardik,” Manjrekar stated.
“It's quite easy to give suggestions from outside. The entire credit for this victory should go to Hardik Pandya. Considering how emotional he has been (over Mumbai's recent results), it was an important win for him.
It has been quite a difficult journey for him. It would be wrong if social media and others say that the Mumbai Indians won because of Rohit Sharma's suggestions. Hardik Pandya is the captain, and he is the one taking decisions, no matter who is giving suggestions,” Manjrekar shared his views.
