Many fans, in the past, have questioned Rohit Sharma’s fitness in the field, but the mystery spinner of the Indian side, Varun Chakravarthy, reckoned that the captain of the side is one of the fittest players in the team, along with Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja.
Rohit enjoyed the Champions Trophy 2025 as they got the better of New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. It was his second ICC title in nine months, having led the side to the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America.
Varun Chakravarthy labels Rohit Sharma’s fitness with Virat Kohli
In a recent podcast, Varun revealed that Rohit Sharma carries the match fitness on the ground as Ravindra Jadeja and Virat Kohli. The Nagpur-born has one of the best match fitness in the middle.

He also highlighted the difference between normal fitness and match fitness, where the latter allows one to do their job rightly in the field. But that doesn’t confirm one winning a race.
“In the Indian team, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma carry superb fitness. Rohit’s match fitness is so high. He is very fit. In cricket, there is something called match fitness, while in a running race, maybe I can’t come first.” Chakravarthy expressed in the video.
“But if you ask me to bowl, I will bowl an entire day. That’s match fitness!! It’s required for the game. Virat, Rohit and Jadeja are fast.” The Tamil Nadu spinner explained.
Rohit Sharma’s contribution to the Champions Trophy 2025 victory
Rohit Sharma had a difficult time in the longest format through the three-match Test series against New Zealand and the five-match red-ball series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 against Australia. He also decided to step down the leadership during the fifth game at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) after a poor performance of just 31 runs in six innings at an average of 6.20.
The veteran didn’t have a tough time in the 50-over format as he thumped a fine century in the second encounter against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. He continued the same aggression in the opening position in the Champions Trophy.
The only issue for Rohit Sharma in the ICC tournament was his regular dismissals inside the powerplay, as he couldn’t extend his knock into a big score. But on a huge occasion of the final against the Kiwis, he broke the jail and ended with a brilliant knock of 76 runs in 83 balls, thanks to seven boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 91.57.
The Mumbai batter finished the tournament with 180 runs in five innings at an average of 36. Apart from his batting, he used his bowlers beautifully, especially the spinners, to control the game according to his plans.
Rohit Sharma’s Test future depends on this individual
When Rohit Sharma collected just 91 runs in six innings against the Blackcaps at home and added 31 runs in the next five innings down under, not many fans predicted the veteran’s next Test trip would happen. But the recent report suggests that he could lead the side during their five-match red-ball series in England.

Rohit’s record in England, apart from the 2021 tour, is not inspiring, but with not many veterans available to lead the side in the next World Test Championship cycle and the recent white-ball success for the Mumbai batter, the selectors want to retain him in the position.
But the entire decision will be shouldered on the road map for the head coach, Gautam Gambhir.
