The Rajasthan Royals (RR) received a body blow before the start of the remainder of IPL 2025, with two foreign players not going to return, as the reports have claimed.

Rajasthan is already out of the event with just three victories in 12 group-stage clashes at a net run rate of -0.718. They are without their regular captain, Sanju Samson, for most games this season. Riyan Parag led the side in his absence.

RR to miss Shimron Hetmyer and Shane Bond for the rest of the IPL 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced that the league will restart on May 17 with the game between the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Due to security reasons of the cross-border situation between India and Pakistan, the board stopped the league in the middle of the fixture between the Delhi Capitals and the Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.

But even for the restart of the season. RR is unlikely to get back their middle-order aggressive West Indies batter, Shimron Hetmyer.

The southpaw was not in a good touch either in the edition, with just 216 runs in 11 innings at an average of 21.60 and a strike rate of 146.93, thanks to one half-century.

There were games where Hetmyer had the chance to win the battle for the RR franchise, but he failed to do so, along with Dhruv Jurel, in the crease.

Along with Hetmyer, Rajasthan’s bowling coach, Shane Bond, can also deny his return to the side.

That will be a little pressure on the bowling department, who would be eager enough to do well in the last two group-stage games to avoid the last position on the points table.

RR misses out on nail-biting defeats

Rajasthan started badly in the 18th edition of the event with two successive defeats against Hyderabad and Kolkata.

But they gained two back-to-back wins to get back on the winning track. However, since then, things haven’t gone their way.

The Royals lost five successive encounters, including the super over against the Delhi Capitals, which they should have won in the main contest.

Gujarat gained an eight-wicket victory against the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders, but they fell short of the target.

Most of their batters and bowlers were not up to the mark in most of the season. Yashasvi Jaiswal is the leading run-getter of the franchise with 473 runs in 12 innings at an average of 43 and a strike rate of 154.57, thanks to five half-centuries at the best score of 75 runs.

Their young captain, Riyan Parag, smacked 377 runs in 12 innings at an average of 37.70 and a strike rate of 170.58, thanks to one fifty at the best score of 95 runs.

Rajasthan aims to plan for IPL 2026

With just two games left for the RR side in the remainder of the season, RR is likely to try to be fearless and show intent from the first ball of the innings. They will host the Punjab Kings on May 18 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

There is also uncertainty on Jofra Archer’s availability for the rest of the season as the England veteran may fly back home for the start of the ODI series against the West Indies.
