The Rajasthan Royals' captain, Sanju Samson, didn't enjoy a great time in IPL 2025 contest against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
But now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has penalized the wicket-keeper batter for breaching the conduct of the game. He is the second member of the inaugural franchise after Riyan Parag during their opening victory in the competition against the Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.
Sanju Samson fined for slow over rate vs Gujarat Titans
The Rajasthan Royals opener received a fine for the slow over rate during the contest against the Gujarat Titans. This was the side's second offense under Article 2.22 of the IPL's code of conduct, which suggests a slow over-rate offense.

They got the penalty for the same reason against the five-time champions. The stand-in captain, who led the side in place of an injured Sanju Samson because the latter was playing as an impact player, got a charge of INR 12 lakhs.
This time, the BCCI has slapped a heavy fine of INR 24 lakhs on Samson because it is his second offence.
"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser." The Indian Premier League (IPL) media release revealed.
Gujarat Titans blow away Rajasthan Royals to claim top position
Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson, on winning the toss, decided to bowl first on a batting surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. They expected the conditions to be batting-friendly in the second innings during the chase.
Gujarat didn't make a great start, losing their captain against a firing swinging delivery from Jofra Archer. But Hos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan put up a stable partnership of 80 runs for the second wicket. The left-handed batter nailed 82 runs in 53 balls at a strike rate of over 150, shouldering on eight boundaries and three over boundaries.
Buttler also smashed 36 runs in 25 balls while Shahrukh Khan, coming at number four, replacing Washington Sundar from the last game, clubbed 36 runs in 20 balls. Rahul Tewatia’s undefeated 24 runs in 12 balls carried them to 217 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Rajasthan didn’t make a great start, losing their top order early in the chase. Sanju Samson kept on battling for his 41 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 146.43, shouldering on four fours and two sixes, while Shimron Hetmyer nailed 52 runs in 32 balls at a strike rate of 162.50.

They have slipped to the seventh position with the defeat and will now take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur during an afternoon fixture.
Sanju Samson’s form in IPL 2025
Sanju Samson started the tournament with a bang. The right-handed batter, playing as the impact player, drilled 66 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
But since then, he has managed only 112 runs in four innings at an average of 28 with no half-century to his name. For the Royals to go up in the points table, they need Sanju Samson’s contribution to the opening position. They also need a better show from their bowling department in the last five overs of the contest.
