Sanju Samson Doubtful vs LSG Amid Rift Rumours With Rahul Dravid

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain, Sanju Samson, is doubtful for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 fixture against the Lucknow Super Giants. He retired out on 31 runs off 19 balls against the Delhi Capitals following a side issue.

Samson picked up the injury after he attempted a cut shot against Vipraj Nigam of Delhi Capitals. The physio checked his left side around the rib before the Kerala-born decided to leave the field. He didn’t come back to bat again for the Royals.

Ahead of the inaugural champions’ next clash against the Rishabh Pant-led side at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the RR head coach, Rahul Dravid, revealed that they are waiting for the scan results before taking a final call on Saju Samson’s availability in the game.

Even if the wicket-keeper opening batter declared fit for the game, he could feature in the game as an impact sub, just like he did at the start of the tournament. In that case, Riyan Parag will be back to lead the side after captaining them for the first three games.

“Sanju Samson experienced a bit of pain in the abdominal area. So we have gone for scans. He has done some scans today, so we are waiting for the results of those scans.” Dravid revealed in the pre-match press conference.

“And then once we get a bit more clarity around the scans and the severity of the injury, we'll take a decision going forward, and we'll see what happens.” The former Indian coach added.

However, in the batting department, Sanju Samson is a vital member of the franchise to be their second-leading run-getter. He has smashed 224 runs in seven innings at an average of 37.33 and a strike rate of 143.58, shouldering one half-century at the best score of 66.

During the discussion of the super-over strategies, the camera found the players talking with Dravid, while Samson was not even close to the circle and almost disconnected him from all the plans. One of the players asked the Kerala batter to join them, but Sanju declined with a hand gesture.

The video streamed a rift rumor between the head coach and the captain of the franchise, who is struggling to get the right results in their favor at the moment.

“I don’t know where these reports are coming from. Sanju and I are on the same page. Sanju Samson is a very integral part of our team. He’s involved in every decision and discussion.” Dravid answered in the presser.

“The team's spirit is really good. I’m impressed with how hard these guys work. One of the things people don’t understand is how hurt the players feel when they don’t perform.” The former Indian batter explained.

Rajasthan Royals aims to break a 3-match losing streak

Rajasthan made a very poor start in the IPL 2025 with two successive defeats. One of those came against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening clash, where they leaked 286/6 in their allotted 20 overs. But they made a decent comeback with two consecutive wins.

However, nothing has gone right for the side since then. They have suffered three successive defeats, the last one coming in the super over against Delhi.

They failed to chase 10 runs in nine deliveries in the official contest. RR, under Sanju Samson, hopes to turn the tables against the Lucknow Super Giants to stay alive in the competition at the halfway mark.
