Rajasthan Royals' (RR) head coach Rahul Dravid offered an update on the injury of skipper Sanju Samson before the IPL 2025 matchup against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Samson was not given the all-clear to travel for the forthcoming game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, according to the former Indian captain.
On Thursday, April 24, the 42nd IPL 2025 match between the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
After suffering an abdominal injury during the game against the Delhi Capitals (DC), Sanju Samson is still recuperating. In his place, RR will be captained by Riyan Parag.
Sanju Samson’s struggles in IPL 2025
Due to his struggles with injuries, Sanju Samson has had a difficult season with the Rajasthan Royals. He has missed two games and only appeared in the first three as a specialized batter.
With a strike rate of over 140 and an average of above 30, Samson has amassed 224 runs.
His absence has hurt a club that is still trying to find the ideal mix. In the IPL 2025, the Rajasthan Royals are currently having trouble.
After dropping four straight games, they are currently in eighth position. They have only won two of their last eight games, therefore, they have little chance of qualifying for the playoffs.
Our Medical Team Didn't Clear Sanju Samson to Play - Rahul Dravid says no timeline for his return
According to Rahul Dravid, Sanju Samson was not cleared for travel by the medical staff, and it was suggested that he not be taken on any more flights to avoid putting him under more stress. Dravid also mentioned that Samson's progress is being tracked every day and that the squad kept the physio with him to help with his recuperation.
"Sanju, I think, picked up a bit of a side issue in the game against Delhi (Capitals), and he couldn't play the last match or this one either. He wasn't fit, and our medical team didn't clear him to play.
So, we took the medical advice not to risk him with further travel- two more flights would've been a strain. We kept the physio back with him so we could treat him and try to get him back as quickly as possible. We're monitoring his recovery on a day-to-day basis," Dravid told the press in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
There is no specific timeframe for Sanju Samson's return, according to Rahul Dravid, and the squad is making every effort to speed up his recuperation.
Samson's return is indefinite
“I don't have a specific timeline for his return, but we're doing everything we can. We've got matches coming up quickly, and then a gap after the 4th. So, we'll just have to wait and see. As of now, he wasn't fit for this match, and that's why he didn't travel to Bengaluru," Dravid added.
For RR to remain in the running, they must win every game they have left. Following their game against RCB, they will play home games against the Mumbai Indians on May 1 and the Gujarat Titans on April 28 in Jaipur. Before a nine-day break, they will make their way to Kolkata.
