Sanju Samson Shares Fanboy Reaction On MS Dhoni’s IPL Career Before 2025 Season

Sanju Samson’s reaction to MS Dhoni’s potential last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has covered the emotion of many Indian fans and the Chennai Super Kings’ army. The joint most successful captain of the event delivered the leadership to Ruturaj Gaikwad at the beginning of the last season.
Chennai didn’t qualify for the playoffs as they lost their crucial fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. But Gaikwad’s impressive captaincy helped him retain the position for the next season.

India’s wicket-keeper batter, Sanju Samson, attended an event with Dhoni recently, and like millions of fans, he also gave a cute reaction to the Ranchi-born.

The 43-year-old announced his retirement from international cricket after making his last outing for the blue brigade during the 2019 ODI World Cup semifinal against the Kiwis. In the upcoming season, he will feature as an uncapped player, having retired from international cricket for more than five years now.
Sanju Samson revealed that whenever the fans and the media started to talk about Dhoni’s potential retirement, he always felt that it would have been great had he stayed a little longer.
“Honestly speaking, I have to learn from my mentor (pointing towards MS Dhoni), so thanks to all the media for coming. Secondly, when the discussions were going around, and Mahi bhai was talking about getting vegetables and fruits and all the examples that he was giving, I think that when he comes to play the IPL, people start to talk about his retirement, so I always feel ‘Thoda Aur (little more) for Dhoni.” Sanju Samson expressed this during the event.
The Kerala-born also disclosed the Indian mentality of getting a bit more.
“So that’s something I have in my mind. Honestly, like everyone in this room, if you ask them the same question, our Indian mentality is to get a little more, and I always agree with that.” The opening batter addressed.
Sanju Samson struggles in recent T20Is
The wicket-keeper batter had a satisfying 2024 in the shortest format, as he smashed 436 runs in 12 innings at an average of 43.60 and a strike rate of nearly 180, with the help of three centuries and one half-century at the best score of 111.
But Sanju Samson went through a tough time in 2025, during the five matches in the England side. The right-handed batter smacked just 51 runs in five innings at an average of 10.20 and a strike rate of 118.60, with the best score of 26.

Samson struggled against the short ball in the home series and underwent surgery but is expected to be part of the Rajasthan Royals as a leader from the start of the IPL 2025.
Sanju Samson to start IPL 2025 campaign on this date
Sanju Samson will lead the Royals against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their opening game on March 23 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, while MS Dhoni will feature in the evening clash of the day for the CSK against the Mumbai Indians (MI) as home, MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Samson’s side will also host the CSK at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati alongside KKR. The opening clash of the season will take place on March 22 between the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The final of the edition will take place at the Eden Gardens.
