Shardul Thakur, an all-rounder for Team India, is reportedly set to join the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) roster for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). Shardul has been with the Lucknow Super Giants as they get ready for the tournament; he was not sold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Shardul Thakur, who had a base price of ₹2 crore, was not sold. He has represented several teams, including the Delhi Capitals, Rising Pune Supergiant, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Punjab Kings.

The right-arm bowler played nine matches for CSK in 2024, getting five wickets. He failed to make a substantial effect, which could have contributed to his exclusion. No team bid for him, even in the fast auction, but he might still play in the IPL 2025 as an injured replacement.

Shardul Thakur replaces Mohsin Khan in LSG for IPL 2025

According to the Times of India, Shardul Thakur will join the Lucknow Super Giants as an injured substitute for Mohsin Khan during the next IPL 2025 season.

Although LSG has yet to make an official announcement, the article states that Shardul has already been informed of the decision. He is expected to travel with the squad to Visakhapatnam for the season opener against the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Official announcement soon

"The official announcement is yet to be made but it's learned that Thakur has been informed about the decision and will be traveling with the side to Visakhapatnam for their season opener vs Delhi Capitals," the report read.

Mohsin Khan had an ACL injury that has kept him out of play for three months. The left-arm bowler began bowling in the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) nets but developed a calf issue, delaying his return.

Other LSG pacers are still rehabilitating at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE), prompting team management to find an injury substitute. Their speed assault, which includes Akash Deep, Avesh Khan, and Mayank Yadav, is yet to join the team.

Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav are in the Centre of Excellence, while Avesh is still recovering from a knee injury. Mayank has begun bowling at a lower intensity but is not yet match-fit. On Monday, March 24, the side led by Rishabh Pant will play its first match at Visakhapatnam's ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
