Shardul Thakur of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made startling comments in response to criticism after his team defeated the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the IPL 2025 encounter. Although commentators will inevitably criticize them, Thakur advised them to consider their data before making any comments.

Despite not selling at the IPL mega auction, Shardul Thakur was brought in to take Mohsin Khan's place.

Shardul has been doing wonders for LSG

He has taken 11 wickets at an average of 19.81 in six games, demonstrating his consistency as a player for the Lucknow Super Giants. After Noor Ahmad (12), Thakur is the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2025 Indian Premier League.

On Saturday, April 12, the Super Giants defeated the Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Stadium thanks in part to a few wickets taken by Shardul Thakur. Thakur discussed the criticism of the bowlers by analysts after the game. He went on to say that in T20 cricket, 200+ scores are becoming more common.

"I’ve always believed that, as a bowling unit, we’ve bowled well throughout the season. A lot of times in commentary, there’s criticism — they try to be hard on the bowlers. "But you have to understand that cricket is moving in a certain direction where 200+ scores are becoming more common. And like you said, criticism will always be there — especially from commentators," Thakur said at a press conference.

They should look at their own stats: Shardul Thakur blasts commentators

It's easy to share opinions from a studio, but they don't see the real picture on the ground, the 33-year-old said. Before passing judgment on others, Thakur advised commentators to examine their own playing histories.

"It’s easy to sit in a studio and comment on someone’s bowling, but they don’t see the real picture out there on the ground. I’m sure they should look at their own stats before criticizing anyone," he added.

LSG's opening batsman, Rishabh Pant, was removed for 21 from 18 balls while Mitchell Marsh was away. After that, Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram put together a strong 58-run partnership for the second wicket.

Markram hit nine boundaries and a six in his 58 runs off 31 deliveries. Pooran hit seven sixes, one four, and 61 off 34 balls. Ayush Badoni scored an undefeated 28 runs off 20 balls to end the chase.

“Credit to us”- Shardul Thakur on LSG defending totals twice in IPL 2025

Defending totals is difficult in high-scoring games, Shardul Thakur said. Although the squad was able to maintain composure until the last overs, the all-rounder acknowledged that the batting conditions improved.

“Credit to us that we’ve defended scores on two occasions when we batted first. We put up a good score, the pitch became better for batting, and even with drastic changes, we managed to defend — one game by 10 runs, one by 4 runs in Kolkata. So it was about holding our nerve till the end and believing in ourselves that we could win the game, provided we got an important wicket or bowled a key over,” he added.

Following their victory over Shubman Gill's team, the Super Giants moved up to third position in the IPL 2025 points standings. They had won four of their last six games. Their bowling attack has been devoid of a foreign pacer.
