Shardul Thakur, the Mumbai all-rounder, has revealed his feelings after going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. This was after he was released by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise after the IPL 2024 tournament.

The Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, revealed several surprises, the most stunning of which was Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur's unsold status.

Thakur did not get buyers before IPL 2025

Thakur's IPL form has declined in recent seasons. The all-rounder's efforts in the IPL 2024 edition were far lower than expected. In nine IPL 2024 matches for CSK, he took only five wickets at an average of 61.80.

As a batter, his performance was equally underwhelming. In the three innings he batted, Thakur scored only 21 runs, failing to establish himself as a reliable lower-order contributor.

I told myself that it is okay: Shardul Thakur on IPL 2025 snub

Shardul Thakur had missed the best part of the 2024 second season due to a foot injury. He was not considered for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia and for other assignments as well before and after that.

Shardul Thakur had kept his base price at INR 2 crores, but when his name came out for auction, no franchise showed interest in buying the all-rounder for the IPL 2025 season. Thakur had been part of the tournament for the past decade and going unsold left the player hurt.

“Yes, for the last 10 years, I have been a part of the IPL and have even won championships. In a player’s life, performances go up and down, but the quality remains. Even then, I told myself that it is okay that I did not get any chances in this IPL, but whenever an opportunity comes, it will be huge, and for that, I need to be ready,” Shardul told Boria Majumdar for RevSportz.

Thakur showing great signs in Domestic Cricket

Despite the IPL 2025 snub, Shardul Thakur has been busy for Mumbai in the domestic cricket circuit. Playing in the quarter-final of the tournament, Shardul picked up 6 wickets against Haryana at Eden Gardens to hand Mumbai a crucial first-innings lead on Monday, 10 February. Shardul's 6-wicket haul took his tally up to 30 wickets this season.

Having scored 396 runs in this Ranji season already, Shardul revealed that he was focused on making a comeback to the Indian Test team.
