Shardul Thakur, who went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, might be considered by the Lucknow Super Giants as a potential replacement ahead of the IPL 2025 season. The 18th edition of the cash-rich league is all set to start on Saturday (22nd March) with the clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Although the former CSK player did not receive any bids at the IPL 2025 mega-auction, his most recent behavior has raised the possibility that he would be seen wearing LSG colors for the following season, which starts on March 22.

Although there is no official confirmation, Shardul, who was not sold at the IPL 2025 auction, is anticipated to play in the league. This is because the all-round player was seen working with the Lucknow Super Giants in their camp before the season began.

Shardul Thakur’s rich vein of form

For the past several months, Shardul has been playing at his best. In the Ranji Trophy 2024–25, the all-rounder was crucial for Mumbai, taking 33 wickets at 19.96 and scoring 402 runs in eight games while supporting the team under duress.

Thakur has a respectable IPL record as well. The bowler has been effective with the bat and has claimed 94 wickets at an average of 30.52. At an incredible strike rate of 138.91, he has hammered 307 runs in 37 innings while batting lower in the order.

Shardul Thakur spotted with Rishabh Pant and in LSG training jersey

Shadul was spotted bowling and sporting a training uniform from the Lucknow Super Giants. Despite playing for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the previous season, the fast bowler was not retained by the team because he only took five wickets in nine games at an average of more than 61 in the 2024 Indian Premier League.

Given the injury concerns involving their three key pacers, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan, the Lucknow Super Giants management may have called Shardul Thakur. The three are currently at the NCA, and the franchise is seeking fitness clearance for them.

LSG troubled with massive injuries

LSG is fretting over the fitness of their three Indian pacers- Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan. Mayank is rehabbing from a back injury he suffered after the Bangladesh T20Is last year. Avesh Khan is dealing with cartilage issues in his knees, while Mohsin Khan has an unknown injury and hasn’t played cricket since December 2024.

Rishabh Pant will lead the Lucknow Super Giants in the 2025 Indian Premier League. On March 24, they will play the Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam to start their campaign.
