According to journalist Vaibhav Bhola of News24, the right-hander is not expected to be selected for the England series in the red-ball format.

According to the journalist, Shreyas Iyer won't be selected because the Gautam Gambhir-led Indian team management feels he can't play short balls. In the five-match Test series, India and the England National Cricket Team will square off.

Iyer last played for the Indian National Cricket Team in whites during the 2024 home series against England. He was then dropped because of his inability to handle short balls. The batter is eager to return and has a respectable overall record in red-ball cricket.

Iyer has amassed 811 runs at an average of more than 36 in 14 Test matches for India. In his first game against the New Zealand National Cricket squad in Kanpur, he hammered five fifties and one century. He then scored some game-winning hits for the squad.

Despite many players getting called into the Test team via IPL, Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant outing in IPL 2025 was also ignored.

The Punjab Kings captain has played 12 games in the tournament so far and has hit 405 runs at a strike rate of over 180 and an average of over 50. This also included 4 half-centuries and the best score of 97*.
