India's many veterans are currently in the twilight period of their careers, especially the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. That has opened the gate for many youngsters to come forward and shoulder the responsibility of the country for the future.
The blue brigade hardly struggles to find a replacement for the superstars and the current generation isn’t the exception.
Shubman Gill has been noted to be the best young batter for the national side currently. He cemented his spot in the Indian team and was named the vice-captain of the white-ball formats.
Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise
Gill led the young side to a T20I series victory in Zimbabwe after the seniors were given a break at the end of their victorious campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA).
Even though he is not confirmed into their Test and T20I side, one can hardly question his place on the 50-over side.

Gill has smashed 2328 runs in the 50-over format in 47 innings at an average of 58.20 and a strike rate of 101.74. He has already celebrated six centuries and 13 half-centuries at the best score of 208. His T20I record of 578 runs in 21 innings isn’t bad at an average of 30.42.
The 25-year-old’s strike rate of nearly 140, shouldering on three half-centuries and one century.
His biggest competitor is the left-handed sensational batter, Yashasvi Jaiswal. The southpaw has drilled 723 runs in the shortest format at an average of 36.15 and a strike rate of 164.31.
The 22-year-old has featured in 36 Test innings for India to club 1798 runs at an average of 52.88 and a strike rate of 65.66, shouldering on four centuries and ten half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 214 runs.
India’s former coach keeps this batter ahead
In a recent interaction with Star Sports, the national side’s former head coach, Sanjay Bangar, has addressed both Jaiswal and Gill as the new generation trade setters. However, he has kept the southpaw ahead if fitness remains on his side in the future.
“They’re in the same age group as Virat and Rohit were in 2013. Yashasvi is a little younger, but the difference is just a few years. They’ve both had remarkable starts in international cricket, so I think they’re the new-generation trendsetters of Indian cricket.” Bangar expressed in the discussion.
“The early signs indicate Yashasvi Jaiswal could be the one, provided fitness remains on his side. His temperament is solid. He’ll be one of India’s biggest run-scorers and match-winners in the future.” India’s former coach claimed.
Sanjay Manjrekar gives massive statement on Yashasvi Jaiswal
One of the breakthrough series for Yashasvi was the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 down under. He finished as the second leading run-getter of the five Tests with the help of 391 runs in ten innings at an average of 43.44 and a strike rate of 53.41, with the help of two fifties and one century.

The former batter, Sanjay Manjrekar, has also admitted Bangar’s statement. He stepped forward to address that Jaiswal has everything to be the GOAT of the game.
“People who have watched him closely think he’s one for the future. The way he’s started—scoring big runs—shows his hunger. He’s not just content with a hundred in Test cricket; he’s getting big hundreds. He has agreed to run at the highest level.” Manjrekar highlighted.
“If you want him to play for a draw, he can do that too. He plays late, uses the back foot well, and is capable of scoring on foreign pitches. That’s the most important trait for a GOAT.” The Mumbai-born concluded.
