Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill has come under fire from former India batsman Ajay Jadeja for referring to Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi's performance as a "lucky day."

The veteran Indian cricket star praised the 14-year-old hitter for his first IPL century and called Gill "some player on television."

Suryavanshi scripts history

On Monday, April 29, Suryavanshi struck 101 runs off 38 balls at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, including eight boundaries and eleven soaring sixes.

In the history of the competition, he became the youngest player to ever score a century. After five straight losses, RR won by a commanding eight wickets.

Suryavanshi (35 balls) broke the record for the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history while chasing a target of 210 runs.

In the twelfth over, Prasidh Krishna cleaned him up, ending his knock. Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal had contributed a 166-run partnership prior to his ejection. The chase was finished by RR in 15.5 overs.

Shubman Gill calls Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s ton “Lucky”; Ajay Jadeja reprimands his statement

Shubman Gill was questioned about his reaction to Vaibhav Suryavanshi's knock after the Gujarat Titans' loss. The Indian batter told the host announcer that it was Suryavanshi's "lucky day."

“It was his (lucky) day. His hitting was just tremendous, and he made full use of his day,” said Shubman Gill while speaking to the host broadcaster.

Shubman Gill's remark regarding Vaibhav Suryavanshi's performance infuriated Ajay Jadeja. Gill calling his knock a "lucky day" didn't detract from the young batter's accomplishment, according to Jadeja.

“But a 14-year-old to believe in himself, the amount that he believes in himself, and to take it that far, even if it's, you know, one day like some player on television just said, oh, it was just his lucky day,” said Jadeja while speaking to JioStar.

Ajay Jadeja says Vaibhav Suryavanshi will be studied thoroughly; he needs to keep reinventing

According to Ajay Jadeja, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made that desire come true. In addition to mentioning the strength of Suryavanshi's performance, he said that future analyses of him are probably going to be frequent.

"All of us who played cricket dreamt of cricket in a certain way, either in our drawing rooms or when we were playing with our friends. This is what you dream of. At 14 and 15, all of us must have dreamt of different things. But this is what you actually dream about. This man has gone out there and lived that dream. There's power. He'll be analysed a hundred times," said Ajay Jadeja.

Suryavanshi will next be seen in action when the Royals take on the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Jaipur on Thursday, May 1.
