Shubman Gill Goes Absent From Team India In Dubai; Reason Revealed

Along with captain Rohit Sharma, India's opener Shubman Gill was the only player who skipped training before the team's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group stage final match against New Zealand in Dubai. At first, the team had serious fitness worries due to the absence of these two players.

Nonetheless, it is anticipated that Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma will both be available for the upcoming match. In addition to these two players, wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant returned to the nets and batted hard.

At the ICC Academy in Dubai, the Indian cricket team practiced for three hours under the lights. Except for Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, every player participated in the training session.

Shubman Gill stays back in the hotel instead of attending a training session

Shubman Gill, the vice-captain of India, chose to remain indoors rather than even touch the ground. According to sources, he is ailing but will be healthy by the March 2 match against New Zealand.

In addition to being India's vice-captain, Gill is currently their top hitter. In the encounter against Pakistan, he also captained the team when Rohit was forced off the field because of hamstring problems.

So far in this tournament, Shubman Gill's batting performance has been outstanding. He has appeared to be at ease with the bat and has contributed well in both games.

India won the opening match thanks to a heroic century from the 25-year-old opener against Bangladesh. In this match, he reached his first hundred in an ICC competition with 101 off 129 balls, remaining undefeated.

Gill hit seven fours and scored 46 from 52 balls. Overall, he has scored 147 runs in two matches at an average of 147 and a strike rate of 81.21. He is likely to play a key role for India in the knockout games.

India and New Zealand to clash on Sunday

Both sides have already advanced to the semi-finals, so the forthcoming game against New Zealand is meaningless. Both clubs will be trying to keep up their winning streaks as the match winner will determine who wins Group A.

New Zealand and India have both recently won consecutive ODI matches. After defeating England in all three of the series' ODIs, India defeated Bangladesh and Pakistan in the Champions Trophy opening matches.

Conversely, New Zealand won the first two Champions Trophy games and all of the tri-series games. The duel between these two teams is likely to be thrilling.
