Shubman Gill’s India Test captaincy hopes are likely to be dashed as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is still not sure about the youngster’s capabilities and whether he can handle being captain of the Indian team.
In recent days, there have been numerous reports about who will be the next Test captain of the Indian Team. However, all of these reports have claimed that youthful batter Shubman Gill is ready to take command of the team.
According to reports, Shubman Gill has already discussed plans with members of the team management. All BCCI officials, as well as the team's coaching staff, agreed that youngster Shubman Gill should be handed the responsibility.
Rishabh Pant prime to be India Test vice-captain
After Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket, Jasprit Bumrah, the team's vice-captain, was initially expected to lead. However, rumors indicate that because he is the major pacer, the team management and BCCI do not want to add to his workload because he is already prone to injuries.
Rishabh Pant's name also arose, but the keeper-batsman was chosen as the team's vice-captain. The Southpaw has been the team's top batter in recent Tests, thus, he was considered for the leadership role.

KL Rahul was not trusted to be captain because the BCCI is not looking at him because he is beyond 33 years old and has not been as consistent as he should have been. They believe his average of less than 35 in 50 games after 11 years of Test cricket is unimpressive.
The BCCI is scheduled to name the India National Cricket Team's Test captain next week. There will be a special news conference to announce the squad for the England series, which will kick off a new edition of the ICC World Test Championship.
