Before the start of the season, many predicted the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to crack 300-runs in an inning during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. They displayed a different way of playing the shortest format with regular scores of over 200 and 250.

However, this year was different. Teams have found a way to keep their batters calm, which increases the pressure and turns into wickets. Meanwhile, the slow and low nature of the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on many occasions didn’t help the IPL 2026 champions.

Pat Cummins’ captaincy could be questioned in a few games for the franchise, who struggled in the powerplay. Mohammed Shami, their premier fast bowler, despite going through a fine Champions Trophy 2025, lost his rhythm with the new ball and was poor in the death overs.

Harshal Patel used his slower balls perfectly in the death overs to fox the batters and ended with 16 wickets in 13 innings, an average of under 27, and an economy rate of just under 10. Pat Cummins, the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad, collected 16 scalps in 14 innings at an economy rate of just over nine.

Ishan Kishan completed a topsy-turvy season with brutal scores in the first and the second-to-last game. The left-handed batter ended with 354 runs in 13 innings at an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 152.58.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s negatives in IPL 2025

Shami finished the season with just six wickets in nine innings at an economy rate of over 11 at an average of 56.16. That pushed Cummins to start bowling with the new ball in the powerplay.

Sunrisers Hyderabad continues to struggle in the spin bowling department. They couldn’t use Rahul Chahar or Adam Zampa in the competition. It was a surprising decision from the management not to sue Chahar in most games, as the focus shifted to Zeeshan Ansari.
