In a surprising development, Suryakumar Yadav has found himself back in contention for the Indian ODI team with an eye on the 2027 ICC World Cup. This report was revealed by Indian journalist Vikrant Gupta.

Regarding Suryakumar Yadav's future with the ODI team, rumors state that the team management has not yet given up on him. In the past, the right-handed batter had the chance to demonstrate his abilities in ODIs, but he was unable to seize the chance.

Gautam Gambhir starts preparing for 2027 World Cup

Since their historic victory on home soil in 2011, India has not won the tournament. Before their devastating loss to Australia in 2023, the Men in Blue had advanced to the final. Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, has already stated that he has begun preparing for the 2027 major event.

He had said that both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be included in the Indian team for the 2027 World Cup shortly after taking over as head coach last year. The coaching team under Gautam Gambhir is supporting a player for the major tournament in addition to Rohit and Kohli.

Suryakumar Yadav to be in the Indian 2027 World Cup team?

Suryakumar Yadav has been among the world's top T20I batsmen for a while, but he hasn't been able to duplicate that success in ODIs. The Mumbai player has amassed 773 runs at an average of 25.76 in his 37 ODI appearances so far.

For Team India, Suryakumar Yadav hasn't participated in an ODI since the 2023 World Cup final. He is still vying for a spot in the ODI squad even though he hasn't played an ODI since Gautam Gambhir was hired.

According to Sports Tak's Vikrant Gupta, the team management is still contemplating recalling Suryakumar Yadav.

Despite winning two ICC World Cups as a player, Gautam Gambhir has not yet taken home the prized trophy in his role as coach. Since taking over the team last year, the former India opener has come under heavy fire for the way things have turned out.

But now, he is only one victory away from taking home his first coaching ICC title. In the current ICC Champions Trophy, Team India has advanced to the final and will face New Zealand in the championship match.
