Only five Pakistan players registered for the women’s draft and 45 for the Men’s draft. With limited overseas slots available for the players’ draft, it was no shock that Aliya Riaz, Fatima Sana, Yusra Amir, Iram Javed, and Jaweria Rauf didn’t get any franchise.

The surprising part of the entire system was that not a single men’s player was picked in the men’s draft, with many more in the pool and a few overseas slots available across the teams in the 100-ball league.

No Pakistan players in the Hundred 2025 Draft

The season of the Hundred has seen a shift in the landscape, with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) inviting outside investment into the franchises. All of the eight sides have been invested, four of which by the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The league has had a fractious relationship with the players. After the Mumbai terror attack in 2008, their players could not take part in the IPL, although the likes of Wasim Akram and Ramiz Raja kept on taking the coaching and commentary roles respectively over the years.

It’s the same case with South Africa’s SA20, which kicked off in 2023. The IPL franchises have owned the teams and not a single player of the Pakistan side has been part of the league’s squad so far.

With the IPL investment coming into the Hundred, there were fears that an official or unofficial ban could get on the players of the Green Brigade as well, leading ECB chair, Richard Gould, to assert last month that none of the Pakistan players’ participation will come under the scanner.

Usama Mir has played the most games (10) of the league in the 2023 and 2024 seasons for the Manchester Originals, while Haris Rauf took part in 12 games. The left-arm spin all-rounder, Imad Wasim, faced 10 games, while Mohammad Amir featured in six matches. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Zaman Khan, Shadab Khan, and Wahab Riaz have played in the league.

Pakistan’s international schedule clashes with the Hundred 2025

There might be an availability concern for the players in the tournament for the new season. The PCB has not confirmed the dates, but the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP) for the 2023-27 season has addressed that they may face the West Indies for three ODIs and as many T20Is from the last week of July and mid-August.

Just before the Asia Cup 2025, they may also take part in a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. The 20-over subcontinent tournament will start in the second week of September, while the board is also in talks with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to organize a white-ball series for a window in July and August.

Hundred, in the 2025 season, will run from August 05 to 31, overlapping almost with two international series, which might have tempted the franchises to think before picking Pakistan’s players.

Afridi pulled out of the last edition to be with his family before agreeing on a deal to play Canada’s Global T20, which overlapped with the Hundred.

Pakistan’s horrible performance in the Champions Trophy

It took them just four days before getting eliminated from the home Champions Trophy 2025 with two successive defeats in the group stage of the event.

The Mohammad Rizwan-led side began the competition with a defeat against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi before they faced the same result against India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Their last group-stage contest against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi ended in a no-result due to the persistent rain.
