A report claimed that the left-handed Hyderabad batter, Tilak Verma, might shift to a different domestic team for the 2025/26 season. However, the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) secretary, R Devraj, confirmed that Verma will continue to represent the side in the domestic competitions.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has made it mandatory for players to feature in the domestic competitions if they want to represent the national side, which came after the recent 3-1 defeat against Australia in the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Yesterday, when Yashasvi Jaiswal’s news of shifting to Goa from Mumbai came out, it was revealed that Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma could also transfer to the Goa Cricket Association.

HCA Secretary confirms Tilak Verma’s commitment to Hyderabad

The HCA secretary, R. Devraj, has eliminated the reports of Tilak Verma switching his domestic side from Hyderabad to Goa. He reckoned that after personal interaction with the southpaw batter, he could confirm the news and urge to avoid spreading the false information.

“I have spoken with Tilak Varma this morning and can confirm that these rumors are completely baseless and untrue. Tilak Varma remains committed to representing his home state, Hyderabad, and takes immense pride in doing so.” Devraj expressed.

“We urge everyone to refrain from spreading misinformation and to support our players as they continue to contribute to Hyderabad cricket.” He highlighted.

Indian opening batter Yashasvi has decided to move to Goa to get the leadership duties. The side has recently been promoted to the Elite Division of the Ranji Trophy and attracted many players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddesh Lad in the recent past.

Tilak Verma’s contribution to Hyderabad cricket

One of the reasons for Hyderabad to do well in the recent domestic season is Verma’s contribution. In first-class cricket, the left-handed batter has nailed 1204 runs in 28 innings at an average of 50.16 and a strike rate of 58.76, scoring five centuries and four half-centuries at the best score of 121.

In T20s, he has nailed 3385 runs in 102 innings at an average of 44.53 and a strike rate of 146.66, thanks to four centuries and 19 half-centuries at the best score of 151.

For the List-A format, Tilak Verma has drilled 1494 runs at a strike rate of 94.79 and an average of 48.19, thanks to five centuries and eight fifties.

During the 2021-22 season of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he was the top run-getter for Hyderabad with 215 runs in seven innings at a strike rate of 147.26. Suddenly, after joining the Indian side, he became their top player with 749 runs in 24 T20I innings at a strike rate of 155.07, recording three fifties and two centuries.

Tilka Verma seeks to do wonders for the struggling Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025

Tilak Verma started the IPL 2025 season well on a slow and low MA Chidambaram Stadium against Chennai Super Kings after they lost so many early wickets in the powerplay. He went with an aggressive mindset in the middle.

However, he hasn’t brought the magic of the shortest format in the game. Tilak nailed 39 runs in 36 balls against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and failed to take them home in a heavy run-chase.

Overall, in three innings, the left-handed batter has collected 70 T20 runs at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 114.73, with the best score of 35. Tilak Verma now hopes to bring his best game for the rest of the season.
