The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a comfort zone for the batters, who have smashed runs in various venues and displayed exceptional performances. Most of the record-breaking feats have gone to the batters, who have made huge impacts in the tournament.

The best season for any batter in a single edition came in 2016, when Virat Kohli drilled 973 runs for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to carry them to the final. In the last season of the event, he was the leading run-getter with 741 runs at a strike rate of nearly 155.

Here are the 10 batsmen with the most runs in the IPL

1. Virat Kohli

The former RCB captain, Virat Kohli, is the highest run-scorer of the IPL with 8509 runs in 255 innings at an average of around 40. Kohli clubbed those runs at a strike rate of 132.60, thanks to eight centuries and 62 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 113 runs.

2. Rohit Sharma

The former Mumbai Indians’ captain, Rohit Sharma, is the second on the list with 6928 runs in 263 innings at an average of just below 30 and a strike rate of more than 130.

Rohit has celebrated two centuries and 46 half-centuries with the best score of an unbeaten 109 runs.

3. Shikhar Dhawan

One of the premier batters of the IPL was the former Indian left-handed batter, Shikhar Dhawan, who smashed 6769 runs in 221 innings at an average of 35.25 and a strike rate of 127.14. He scored two centuries and 51 fifties with the best score of an unbeaten 106 runs. Dhawan still holds the record for the most boundaries (768) in the event.

4. David Warner

The former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, David Warner, led the franchise to the 2016 title against RCB. He is fourth on the list with 6565 runs in 184 innings at an average of 40.52 and a strike rate of 139.77, thanks to four centuries and 62 fifties at the best score of 126 runs.

There were many seasons where the pocket dynamo would come and drill runs in a few games to provide a huge advantage for the franchise.

5. Suresh Raina

Raina, who is renowned as the ‘Mr. IPL’ for his consistent performance, is fifth on the list with 5528 runs in 200 innings. The southpaw has carried an average of 32.51 and a strike rate of 136.73, shouldering one century and 39 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 100 runs.

For the Chennai Super Kings, coming at three, he has contributed immensely in various situations of the game.

6. MS Dhoni

The five-time IPL-winning captain, MS Dhoni, is sixth on the list with 5423 runs in 241 innings at an average of 38.46. Coming in the lower order, he would nail the aggressive shots at a strike rate of 137.63, thanks to 24 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 84 runs.

7. AB de Villiers

Very few foreign players have performed better than the former Protea captain, AB de Villiers. The right-handed batter has smacked 5162 runs in 170 innings at an average of just under 40 and a strike rate of 151.68.

De Villiers has cracked three centuries and 40 fifties in the league with the best score of unbeaten 133 runs.

8. KL Rahul

The Indian wicket-keeper batter, KL Rahul, who has led various franchises, is eighth on the list with 5064 runs in 133 innings at an average of 45.62. Rahul has smashed four centuries and 40 fifties at a strike rate of 135.16 and has had a huge impact with consistent performances.

9. Ajinkya Rahane

The opening batter, Ajinkya Rahane, has accumulated 5017 runs in 182 innings of the IPL and is one of the old members of the league. Rahane has smashed these runs at an average of 30.9 and a strike rate of 124.89, with two centuries and 33 half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 105 runs.

10. Chris Gayle (West Indies)

There is no list of IPL records without the Universe Boss, Chris Gayle. The former West Indies opener has collected 4965 runs in 141 innings at an average of 39.72 and a strike rate of 148.96, with six centuries and 31 fifties at the best score of unbeaten 175 runs.
