Over the years, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has evolved a lot with the performances of both the batters and bowlers. Some of the spinners, in the last few years, have grown by leaps and bounds with their phenomenal performances.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the leading wicket-taker in history, earned the Purple cap with the most wickets (27) in 17 innings at an average of 19.51 and a strike rate of 15.11 with an economy rate of 7.75, thanks to one five-wicket and one four-wicket haul.

Here are the top 10 bowlers with the most wickets in the IPL

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

The Indian leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, is the highest wicket-taker of the 20-over competition with 219 wickets in 169 innings at an average of 22.49 and a strike rate of 16.98.

Chahal has enjoyed an economy rate of just below eight with the best bowling figure of 5/40 in an innings, including eight four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

2. Bhuvneshwar Kumar

One of the premier pacers of the tournament, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, can bowl both in the powerplay and the death overs. He could swing the new ball and change his pace in the death overs.

Kumar is the second leading wicket-taker in IPL history with 193 scalps in 186 innings at an average of 27.29 and an economy rate of 7.63, with the help of two four-wicket and five-wicket hauls.

3. Piyush Chawla

Another veteran leg-spinner of the national side, Piyush Chawla, has collected many rewards with the ball. In 191 IPL innings, he has picked up 192 wickets at an economy rate of under eight with an average of 26.60, thanks to the best bowling figure of 4/17 in an innings. He also won the 2014 season with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

4. Sunil Narine

Years have changed. Rules have been modified. Batters have found different skills. But the mystery spinner from Trinidad remains the same. Sunil Narine keeps producing impactful bowling performances even after 13 years of his debut.

In 186 innings, he has added 190 wickets at an average of 25.68 and an economy rate of 6.77, thanks to the best bowling figure of 5/17 in an innings.

5. Ravichandran Ashwin

The cunning Indian off-spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, is the fifth leading IPL wicket-taker with 185 scalps in 216 innings at an economy rate of 7.18 and an average of 30.32, based on one four-wicket haul at the best figure of 4/34 in an innings.

6. Dwayne Bravo

In the years from 2012 to 2015, there was hardly any season when the former CSK pacer couldn’t get among the top five wicket-takers. He developed his slower balls to fox the batters in the death overs.

Bravo is the sixth leading wicket-taker of the league with 183 scalps in 158 innings at an average of 23.82, and a strike rate of 17.04 with an economy rate of 8.38. He celebrated a couple of four-wicket hauls.

7. Jasprit Bumrah

There is no better bowler than Jasprit Bumrah, who could bowl at any phase of the game with the same capability. The Mumbai Indians’ pacer has 178 IPL wickets in 141 innings at an average of 22.07 and an economy rate of 7.26, with three four-wicket and two five-wicket hauls.

8. Amit Mishra

Another premier Indian spinner in the list is Amit Mishra, who used his variations to create pressure on the batters. In 162 innings, he has collected 174 wickets at an average of 23.82 and an economy rate of 7.37, with the help of four four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul.

9. Lasith Malinga

The former Sri Lankan pacer, Lasith Malinga, has the immense skill of bowling yorkers one after another. He has 170 wickets in 122 IPL innings at an average of 19.79 and an economy rate of 7.14.

Malinga has bagged six four-wicket hauls and one five-wicket haul with the best bowling figure of 5/13 in an innings.

10. Ravindra Jadeja

The former CSK left-arm spinner, Ravindra Jadeja, on the dry and low surfaces of the MA Chidambaram Stadium, is lethal than anyone.

In IPL history, he is the tenth leading wicket-taker with 168 scalps in 223 innings at an economy rate of 7.66, thanks to the best figure of 5/16 in an inning.
