Top 10 Cricketers To Score The Fastest 200 Runs In ODIs

For a long time, it was impossible to break the double-century record in ODI cricket. In the past, the former Pakistan and West Indies batters, Viv Richards and Saeed Anwar, fell short of the score by a few runs in the 90s.

Later, the South African opener, Herschelle Gibbs, MS Dhoni, and Sanath Jayasuriya came close. The first double ton came in February 2010 as Sachin Tendulkar became the first batter to reach the landmark over the next five years.

Here are the top 10 cricketers to score the fastest 200 runs in ODIs

1. Ishan Kishan (126 balls)

The young left-handed Indian batter, Ishan Kishan, holds the record for the fastest double century in the 50-over format. He celebrated the milestone in just 126 balls against Bangladesh, thanks to 24 boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 160.31.

Kishan was also the second youngest to score a 50-over double ton and the first to convert his maiden century into a double ton.

2. Glenn Maxwell (128 balls)

On one leg, the Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, recorded his first double century against Afghanistan at the Wankhede Stadium during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

In a match-winning partnership with captain Pat Cummins, Maxwell cramped to scored an unbeaten 201 runs in 128 balls, with the help of 21 boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 157.03.

3. Pathum Nissanka (136 balls)

Sri Lanka’s opener, Pathum Nissanka, is at three in the list of double centuries in ODIs. He hammered 200 runs in 136 balls during the first game against Afghanistan in Kandy, thanks to 20 boundaries and eight sixes at a strike rate of 151.07.

It also broke the ODI record for the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batter in history, going past Jayasuriya.

4. Chris Gayle (138 balls)

During the 2015 ODI World Cup in Canberra for the fixture between West Indies and Zimbabwe, the left-handed opening batter, Chris Gayle, became the first non-Indian to score a double century in the 50-over format.

The southpaw smashed 215 runs in 147 balls and got to the landmark in 138 balls. He now holds the rarest record of the T20I century, ODI double century, and Test triple century.

5. Virender Sehwag (140 balls)

Sehwag was known for his aggression at the opening position for the Indian team. The opener brought up his double century in just 140 balls against the West Indies in 2011.

He finished with 219 runs in 149 balls in Indore, thanks to 25 boundaries and seven sixes at a strike rate of 146.97. It was the format’s highest individual score before Rohit Sharma broke it in 2014.

6. Shubman Gill (145 balls)

Gill is the youngest batter ever to celebrate a double century in the format when he achieved the feat against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.

The opening batter drilled 208 runs in 149 balls at a strike rate of 139.59, thanks to 19 boundaries and nine sixes. He was also the fastest to breach the 1000-run mark in the format.

7. Sachin Tendulkar (147 balls)

No cricket record is complete without Sachin Tendulkar, who achieved this record in his illustrious career against South Africa. He managed 200 runs in 147 balls, including 25 boundaries and three sixes.

At Gwalior, he showed how the batter could break the 200-run mark in this format. Tendulkar remains the oldest batter to score a double ton.

8. Fakhar Zaman (148 balls)

Pakistan’s southpaw opener, Fakhar Zaman, became the first batter in the country to celebrate a double century against Zimbabwe at the Queen’s Park Oval in Bulawayo.

Fakhar nailed 200 runs in 148 balls and remained undefeated on 210 runs in 156 balls at a strike rate of 134.61, thanks to 24 boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 134.61.

9. Rohit Sharma (151 balls)

Rohit’s second double century in ODIs came against Sri Lanka in 2014 at the Eden Gardens. He got to the 200-run mark in 151 balls and stunned the world with his aggressive batting.

The veteran ended with 264 runs in 173 balls at a strike rate of 152.60, with the help of 33 boundaries and nine sixes.

10. Rohit Sharma (151 balls)

Rohit made his comeback in the ODI format after a finger injury and smashed his second 200 against Sri Lanka in 2017 at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali.

The Nagpur-born celebrated the record in 151 balls and ended with an unbeaten 208 runs in 153 balls at a strike rate of 135.94, thanks to 13 boundaries and 12 sixes.
