The mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 saw several players bagging a whopping amount in the bid. It’s natural for the players to be under pressure throughout the season when the franchise spends so much money on players.

Unfortunately, several players have failed and couldn’t stand up to their performance in an equal relation to the price tag. The performance of these players left the team in trouble since they heavily rely on their performances.

Here are the top five biggest flops of the IPL 2025

5. Venkatesh Iyer (KKR)

If the Kolata Knight Riders (KKR) get a chance to release a few players from this season, the left-handed batting all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is one on the list. He bagged a huge price of INR 23.75 crore to be the third costliest player of the mega auction.

The southpaw has smashed only 142 runs in seven innings at an average of just over 20. His strike rate of 139.21 wasn’t up to the mark in terms of the value he brings to the table. Last year, he drilled 370 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of around 160 with four half-centuries.

Iyer’s performance in the middle order of the IPL 2025 didn’t settle KKR’s performance.

4. Liam Livingstone (RCB)

The right-arm spin all-rounder, Liam Livingstone, joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for a big cheque of INR 8.75 crore. He came to the franchise with so much hype as a power-hitter in the lower order.

The right-handed batter smashed 87 IPL runs in seven innings at an average of 14.50 and a strike rate of 126.08, with the highest score of 54 runs. Livingstone’s poor performances saw him get dropped. The management displayed confidence in Romario Shepherd and could release the England batter next year.

3. Mohammed Shami (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad needed a veteran Indian pacer, Mohammed Shami, who could partner their captain, Pat Cummins, in the powerplay overs. The runners-up of the last season bagged the Bengal bowler for a price of INR 10 crore.

However, Shami couldn’t turn up with delicious performances. He grabbed only six scalps in nine innings at an average of 56.16 and an economy rate of 11.23 during the IPL 2025.

Shami, who came into the season after recovering from injury, lacked momentum and stability with the ball inside the first six overs of the innings and even during the death overs.

2. Kagiso Rabada (GT)

The Gujarat Titans (GT) signed the Proteas pacer, Kagiso Rabada, for a price of INR 10.75 crore. He couldn’t come up with a great performance with the ball and repeat his heroics from the earlier seasons of the league.

He finished this edition with two IPL 2025 scalps in four innings at an average of 81 and a strike rate of 42, thanks to the best figure of 1/41 in an inning. Rabada left the league midway and flew back home for some personal reason. The veteran didn’t get his rhythm this year, and that made him one of the biggest flops of the IPL 2025.

1. Rishabh Pant (LSG)

Rishabh, the Lucknow Super Giants’ captain, is the most expensive player of the season for INR 27 crore. Apart from his century against RCB in the last league encounter of the tournament, he smashed only 151 runs in 12 innings at an average of under 13 with one half-century.

Pant couldn’t do well even in the leadership department of the game. Meanwhile, his lack of runs in the middle order didn’t power the middle order of the franchise.
