The former New Zealand pacer, Trent Boult, entered his name in the history books on Saturday (February 08) when he won the maiden championship of the SA20 with the MI Cape Towns. They beat the two-time champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Bout has put his attention more towards the T20 franchise. On the same day, when the Blackcaps were facing Pakistan in the tri-series opener ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025, Bout was trying his best to help the Rashid Khan-led side win the title.

It wasn’t a classical batting performance from the Cape Town side, as they lost both their opening batters in the powerplay. The issue for the side was losing wickets regularly for the entire 20 overs. Dewald Brevis accelerated the innings with 38 runs in 18 balls to reach 181/8 in the allotted 20 overs.

But Trent Boult broke the back of the Sunrisers in the chase. He found Hermann caught in the hands of Ryan Rickelton for one run. The batter got a top edge as he looked to play the lofted shot.
Tristan Stubbs, during the 15th over, looked to smash the slower ball outside the ground but failed to keep it down and found the hands of Rashid. The left-arm pacer finished with 2/9 in his four overs.
“First of all, the boys put on a great performance. We scratched to 180, and is very satisfying to get the job done. (It's) a beautiful place to play. The tournament is well followed. It was nice to get on a wicket that had help for the bowlers. Players stood up at the right points this season.” The Kiwi pacer revealed at the end of the encounter during the prize-winning ceremony.
New Zealand pacer becomes first-ever player to earn this feat
The Blackcaps pace bowler has become the first ever player in the world to win four T20 titles with as many teams of the same franchise. He was part of the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020 before claiming the Major League Cricket (MLC) with MI New York in 2023.
Trent Boult also enjoyed the International League T20 title with MI Emirates in 2024 and now celebrates the SA20 title with the Cape Town-based franchise on Saturday (February 08).
The fast bowler finished the 2024-25 season of the SA20 as the 11th leading wicket-taker. He picked up 11 wickets in 10 innings at an average of 24 and a strike rate of 20.72. His economy level of below seven provides the side a chance to get early command in the game.

“(It’s) Very special. To get the opportunity to win all four (titles with the MI franchise) was great. Haven't played much cricket in South Africa. Guys wanted to do it for each other. Cricket here has been great fun.” Trent Boult noted.
