Michael Vaughan brought up Ben Stokes’ name while speaking about Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old, who made history in the ongoing IPL 2025, becoming the youngest player to play in the tournament, and scored a century as well.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on Monday, April 28, in Jaipur when he led the Rajasthan Royals to a century off only 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans.
Vaibhav left no Gujarat bowler alone
Batting first, GT scored 209/4. Shubman Gill, the skipper, once again took the lead with 84 runs off 50 balls. However, veteran batsman Jos Buttler scored 50 off just 26 balls as the Titans posted a total of over 200.
Even though the Royals had a strong disadvantage, Vaibhav Suryavanshi destroyed the GT bowlers. In his 38-ball knock of 101 runs, he hit 11 sixes and seven fours. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit 70* and helped RR win by six wickets, formed a 166-run partnership with Suryavanshi.
Michael Vaughan says Ben Stokes was better than Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest-ever batter to score a century in IPL history and even in men’s T20 cricket. His ton was the second fastest in IPL ever, just behind Chris Gayle’s effort in 30 balls in the 2013 IPL. Vaibhav also broke Yusuf Pathan’s record of the 37-ball ton, to hit the fastest century by an Indian in the IPL.
Cricbuzz posted the video of Suryavanshi’s innings and asked their followers a simple question: “Such six-hitting ability at just 14!! Does his batting remind you of anybody? #RRvGT #IPL2025”
To this, Michael Vaughan quoted their post and wrote: “Ben Stokes”

Michael Vaughan predicts a glorious future for Vaibhav Suryavanshi
The young player's talent, strength, and ease of breaking through barriers at such a young age in a highly competitive event like the IPL have cricket fans and commentators in full awe. According to Michael Vaughan, the former captain of England, India already has a future superstar in Suryavanshi.
Recalling his 58-ball 100 against Australia in the Under-19 cricket tournament, the Englishman said Suryavanshi may dominate the cricket globe in the years to come. The teenager's strength and clean hitting astounded Vaughan, who claimed that even at his best, he had never made shots like that.
In order to steer Suryavanshi in the proper direction, Vaughan added that India would soon assume complete control of his career. The young star is already receiving a lot of attention, therefore, the Englishman believes the knowledgeable Indian management would be crucial in assisting him in managing the pressure and staying on course.
