Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been indirectly accused of age fraud by Vijender Singh, India’s Olympic medal-winning boxer, who has turned professional. This comes after Suryavanshi, at the age of 14 years, captured the imagination of everyone with his batting exploits in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi made a huge splash as he made his debut at 14 years for the Rajasthan Royals against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur. He smashed the first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur for a huge six over covers into the stands.
Days later, Suryavanshi smashed a 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, also in Jaipur, helping RR handsomely win the match. His knock consisted of 11 sixes and 7 fours, and he eventually got out for 101 off 38 balls.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes the youngest to score an IPL and a T20 century
Thanks to his record feat, Suryavanshi at 14 years and 35 days, became the youngest batter to score a century in IPL, beating the record of Manish Pandey, and also in all men’s T20 cricket. Suryavanshi’s 35-ball ton was also the second fastest off all time in IPL
His effort came just behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton during his record 175* innings. Vaibhav Suryavanshi also hit the fastest century in IPL by an Indian batter, breaking the record of Yusuf Pathan, who had made a century in 37 balls.
Vijender Singh indirectly takes a dig at Vaibhav Suryavanshi; alleges age fraud in cricket
In a social media post, former Indian boxer Vijender Singh ignited the internet by asking whether age fraud had become a problem in cricket.
The post was made just a few days after 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) made headlines nationwide and on the internet after hitting a century off 35 balls against the Gujarat Titans (GT).
“Bhai aaj kal umar choti ker ke cricket me bhe khelne lage (Have players have started reducing their age in cricket too?)," asked the Olympic Games bronze medallist Vijender on X (formerly Twitter), with a thinking emoji.

Suryavanshi's parents have already rejected baseless claims
The act of lying about a player's age, mainly to assist them to compete against younger players or further their careers, is known as age fraud. '
Although it is a major issue in Indian sports, especially at the junior and age-group levels, there is currently no publicly available evidence that Suryavanshi or any other young cricket players have broken the rules.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has strict rules against it and has taken stringent measures to address the issue, including stricter verification processes, recently.
