Varun Chakaravarthy gave an epic reply to allegations of India having unfair advantage of playing all matches in Dubai by posting his own ‘tea’ post after India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, that was hosted by Pakistan.
The mystery spinner showed off Varun Chakaravarthy's funny side and made a veiled dig at critics who questioned India's 'advantage' in Dubai.
India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the Champions Trophy final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9. Chasing 252, the Men in Blue finished the chase in 49 overs. Skipper Rohit Sharma was named Player of the Match after scoring 76 runs off 83 balls.
India played all its Champions Trophy 2025 games in Dubai despite Pakistan being the hosts
India played all of their Champions Trophy matches in Dubai, whereas other teams had to travel between Pakistan and the UAE. This caused criticism because teams like New Zealand and South Africa had to take multiple flights between locations. India remained in one area during the event.
New Zealand had to fly from Pakistan to Dubai for their group-stage match against India before returning to Lahore for the semifinals. The Black Caps returned to Dubai for the final. Meanwhile, South Africa flew to Dubai due to uncertainties about their semifinal venue before returning to Lahore the next day.
The team led by Rohit Sharma made the most of their advantage. They went undefeated in the group stage and beat Australia in the semifinals.

A report by The Tribune revealed that New Zealand traveled the most during the tournament. The BlackCaps covered 7,048 km across Karachi, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Dubai. South Africa also traveled across Karachi, Rawalpindi, Dubai, and Lahore, totaling 3,286 km in travel distance.
On the other hand, India only traveled from the hotel to ICC Academy for practice and then to Dubai Cricket Stadium for the matches.
In counter to the allegations, Varun Chakaravarthy posted his celebration photos to Instagram, showing him clutching the Champions Trophy in a hotel and enjoying coffee. Varun Chakaravarthy also posted a cheeky caption: “A lot of distance was traveled to get a taste of this Cup.”

While it was a clear dig at the criticism of India playing all its matches in Dubai in the Champions Trophy and refusing to travel to Pakistan, some of the fans also correlated the post as a jibe at Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed.
Pakistani spinner Abrar Ahmed had posted a picture of himself with a cup of tea, captioned “Last cup of Fantastic evening tea”—a post that seemingly referenced the Abhinandan Varthaman incident in a mocking tone.

Varun Chakraavarthy finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker with nine wickets in just three matches. He picked a fifer in his second ODI itself that came against New Zealand.
