India has started their practice in the batting department before the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium against New Zealand. With three unbeaten victories, they are unbeaten in the tournament as they earned a vital win against Australia in the semifinal.

The Blur Brigade practiced at the ICC academy on March 07 as most of the batters spent their time in the nets. Rohit Sharma’s army will hope to see Kohli firing once again in the event to keep themselves in the fight for the second title since winning the cup in 2013 and ending as runners-up in 2017.

Virat Kohli’s dream run in Champions Trophy 2025

Virat Kohli had a terrible time in the five-match Test series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 down under against Australia when he managed just 191 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, despite celebrating a century in the opening clash at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

The 36-year-old grabbed a half-century in the third ODI against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. But he struggled against Bangladesh’s spinners in Dubai. But he creamed the Pakistan bowlers all around the park for his unbeaten century in the second encounter.

Glenn Phillips’ terrific catch at the point region sent the batter back in the hut early in the third game against New Zealand before he shouldered the side over the line in the first semifinal against Australia. The right-handed batter drilled 84 runs to take them over the line in a close encounter.

Virat Kohli will hope to extend the good knock against the Kiwis in the final and go a step further from last season when they finished as the runners-up of the Champions Trophy 2017 against Pakistan at the Kennington Oval. One of the masterclass parts of Kohli’s knock this season is how he has milked the singles and doubles around the park.

Virat Kohli stuck near his knee to stop training

At the ICC Academy, he was facing a fast bowler in the nets as Virat Kohli was stuck near his knee, prompting him to stop training immediately. The Indian physio rushed to attend the batter and applied a spray to wrap the area with a bandage.

Despite experiencing mild pain, Kohli remained on the ground and observed the rest of the training session as the other players showed concern regarding the situation. The Indian coaching staff later clarified that it wasn’t a serious injury and that the star batter would be fit to play the final.

“In every match, the wicket changes slightly. As a batting coach, how do you assess our batsmen's ability to adapt? While the wicket does change a bit, it's overall nature hasn't shifted much.” India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, expressed before their practice.

“However, the batting has been excellent. And secondly, we've been fortunate to get solid starts, and on occasions when those starts were lacking, the middle order stepped up.” He noted.

Virat Kohli’s performance against New Zealand in ODIs

Virat Kohli has always enjoyed batting in the 50-over format against New Zealand as he has mastered 1656 runs in 32 innings at an average of 57.10 and a strike rate of 95.56, shouldering on nine fifties and six centuries at the best score of unbeaten 154 runs.

He will hope to keep the same momentum going. With him not playing the T20I format, ODIs will always keep him in shape for the longest format in the future.
