Virat Kohli’s wicket in the recent Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways was probably the biggest one that pacer Himanshu Sangwan took in his career thus far. Himanshu Sangwan has progressed from being unknown to becoming one of India's most talked-about players.
This comes after the pacer dismissed India's Virat with a peach in the game at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Sangwan dents Kohli's Ranji Trophy return
Himanshu Sangwan spoiled Kohli's return to the Ranji Trophy after a 12-year absence. The bowler bowled a fantastic inswinging delivery that found the gap between bat and pad, sending the off-stump cartwheeling.
Kohli was back in the hut after hitting only 6 runs, and practically everyone began talking about Sangwan. The pacer was ecstatic as he removed the batter and was praised by several fans and commentators.
Virat Kohli’s ultimate humiliation in the Ranji Trophy was planned by a bus driver: Himanshu Sangwan
Railways bowler Himanshu Sangwan discussed Kohli's wicket that he took during the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game against Delhi. He claimed that even the bus driver informed him that he needed to bowl the fifth stump line to the batsman.
Sangwan discussed dismissing Kohli, stating that his teammates had already indicated trust in him to remove the batter before the match began. He shared the bus driver's advice and stated that he had self-confidence.
"Before the match, there were talks about Kohli and Rishabh Pant going to play for Delhi. At the time, we didn't know that the match would be aired live. We slowly learned that Rishabh Pant wouldn't play, but Virat would, and the match would be streamed live. I am leading the Railways' pace attack. Every team member told me that they thought I would dismiss Virat Kohli.
On the bus in which we were traveling, even the bus driver told me that you knew that you needed to bowl at the fourth-fifth stump line to Virat, and then he would get out. I had self-belief. I just wanted to focus on my strengths rather than someone else's weaknesses and I bowled to my strengths and ended up getting the wicket,” Sangwan told Hindustan Times.
Kohli had last played a Ranji game for Delhi in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh.
'Very well bowled'—Himanshu Sangwan reveals Virat Kohli’s words to him
Sangwan went on to say that he had no specific plan for Virat Kohli and that the batter complimented him on his bowling performance. The pacer also discussed how the batter autographed the ball for him.
"There was no specific plan for Virat Kohli in general. The coaches told us that the players from Delhi like to play attacking cricket. They are all stroke players. We were told to bowl a disciplined line. When our innings ended, I was going to the dressing room, and Virat Kohli was coming to the field. Ayush Badoni and Virat were there.
Virat Bhaiya himself shook hands with me and said, 'Very well bowled.'. He told me that I was bowling well. I then told him I wanted to take a picture with him during the lunch break. I went to Delhi's dressing room and I took the same ball with which I got him out. He even asked me whether it was the same ball and he then said jokingly, 'Oh teri ki. Maza aa gaya tujhe toh',” Sangwan said.
