Virender Sehwag, Indian legend, slammed RCB (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) after their humiliating loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a rain-hit IPL 2025 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday (April 18).
Against the Punjab Kings at their home venue, Royal Challengers Bengaluru collapsed to just 95/9 in a 14-over-per-side match. Only Tim David's incredible 50 off 26 balls saved them from total disaster, and the young supporters were spotted sobbing as they watched the batter's humiliating display.
Josh Hazlewood tried his best to keep RCB in the match
Despite their best efforts, Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar shared five wickets between them, but they had no chance due to the low total. With 11 balls and five wickets remaining, PBKS chased down the target, and RCB lost a home game once more due to their careless play.
In the current IPL 2025, it was RCB's third home loss. At one point, RCB appeared to be absolutely lost on the challenging field as they were reeling at 42/7 in just 8.2 overs.
No RCB batter used common sense: Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag criticized the RCB batsmen for their blatant lack of strategy and patience against the PBKS, as well as their reckless and wild strokes that cost them wickets.
Sehwag emphasized that the Bengaluru team has been making the same mistake at home in the ongoing IPL 2025: not a single batter has shown the intelligence or duty to battle for the team. Interestingly, they have won every away game this season.
“RCB batted poorly. All of them played reckless shots to get out. Not a single batter was out to a good ball. At least one batter should've used common sense. If they had wickets in hand, they could have reached 110 or 120 in 14 overs, which would have given them a chance to fight,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
By dismissing Virat Kohli and Phil Salt early on, Arshdeep Singh gave Punjab Kings a strong start. At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, RCB continued to lose wickets as rookie Harpreet Brar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Marco Jansen, and Xavier Bartlett all claimed frequent wickets.
RCB was bowled out for 95 after their batting crumbled. Sehwag attributed the low score on the board to the host team's careless batting but gave respect to the PBKS bowlers.
“There is a difference between getting wickets and earning wickets,” Virender Sehwag added.
Rajat Patidar needs to rectify RCB batting: Virender Sehwag
The way that RCB captain Rajat Patidar minimized the team's batting failure did not impress Sehwag. This season, this was RCB's third consecutive home loss.
RCB has now dropped 46 games at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is more than any other club has done at their home field in the IPL.
“Patidar has to think and come up with a solution. They have not been winning at home. Their bowlers are doing well, but why are their batters faltering regularly? It's not alright if your batters continuously fail at home. Who is going to rectify that?” Virender Sehwag signed off.
