Billy Bowden, a former New Zealand umpire, has spoken out about the issue surrounding Sam Konstas and Virat Kohli during the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bowden thought that the Indian shouldn't have touched him physically and blamed Kohli.

During the Test series between Australia and India in the latter part of last year, the Virat Kohli-Sam Konstas incident became a major topic of conversation. When Kohli slammed his shoulder into the Sam Konstas, it caught everyone off guard.

The incident resulted in some heated moments between the two of them during a high-stakes series, and Kohli was continuously singled out by both the home audience and Australian cricket analysts.

The event occurred following the conclusion of an over in the morning session of Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India in Melbourne. Virat Kohli was also observed approaching the young player, while Konstas was approaching his non-striker Usman Khawaja.

Kohli appeared to abruptly alter his course and slammed his shoulder into Konstas. A violent argument broke out between the two players before Khawaja and the umpire stepped in to diffuse the tension.

Following this event, the home crowd began booing Kohli nonstop. For his altercation with Konstas, he was also given one penalty point and fined 20% of his match expenses.

Billy Bowden was questioned over the incident involving Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match in Australia during a podcast on the 'Cyrus Says' YouTube channel. Bowden made it apparent that physical contact between games is not permitted.

He also offered his advice on how, in his capacity as an umpire, he would handle such circumstances. Bowden praised Kohli as a brilliant player but questioned what his family would make of him performing such actions on a cricket field.

"There shouldn't be any excuse for physical (touch). That shouldn't be at all over there. You try to make that happen and You try to see it before it actually explodes, but if you can't, you just allow it to take its course for a little while. I would just signal to both out, not just one.

Would say to (Virat) Kohli, What would your wife think? What would your kid think seeing that and What would they say to you? You're a great player, but that wasn't a great look, what you've just done. Actions speak louder than words," Bowden said.

In 2015, Billy Bowden announced his retirement from international cricket. He is currently in India, meanwhile, to serve as an official for the International Masters League, where retired athletes from various nations compete for a prized trophy.
