In an interview with S Badrinath before Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL 2025 matchup with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 28 at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium, Ambati Rayudu once again made a vicious jab at the team.

The six-time IPL champion didn't hold back as he ridiculed Royal Challengers Bengaluru's history of failures, pointing out that they have had elite players in their ranks for almost 20 years, yet they have failed to win the coveted trophy.

It is no secret that RCB has been without a trophy since joining the IPL in 2008, despite three finals appearances in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Even with Virat Kohli’s record-breaking turnout in 2016 with 973 runs and 4 centuries, RCB fell short of winning the title as they were defeated by SRH in the final.

They are good for entertainment: Ambati Rayudu’s huge dig at RCB in IPL

Ambati Rayudu interviewed Subramaniam Badrinath on his YouTube channel, making fun of the RCB's long-standing problems. The former Indian batsman believed that, over time, cricket analysts and fans had learned to find amusement in Royal Challengers Bengaluru's shortcomings.

Though he wants Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to win the title in the current season, Rayudu said that he would want to see Royal Challengers Bengaluru win the IPL trophy eventually. However, he said it shouldn't happen this year.

However, the former CSK and Mumbai Indians batsman has joked that it's not so awful in the IPL to have a great team like RCB without a trophy.

“I mean purely as a fan and purely as someone who had really good laughter looking at them over the years because of what they do to themselves. I would want them to win sometime, but not this year, maybe because we also want CSK to really do well and win it. Yeah, in the end, it is like, okay, RCB, we need someone like that in the IPL,” he told Badrinath.

When RCB plays the five-time IPL champions on Friday, they hope to continue their winning streak against CSK, whom they haven't defeated in an IPL match at the Chepauk since 2008.

Rayudu has been integral to MI and CSK's success

In 2010, Ambati Rayudu joined the Mumbai Indians (MI) to begin his IPL career. Under Rohit Sharma's leadership, he participated in MI's championship-winning campaigns in 2013, 2015, and 2017. Rayudu was selected in the super auction and joined the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2018.

In the 2018 season, CSK won the trophy after making an incredible comeback. In the 2021 and 2023 seasons, they tested their success. After winning the championship one final time, Rayudu announced his retirement and said goodbye to the game just before the IPL 2023 final.
