Virat Kohli has been in a magical effort with the bat in the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy 2025 as he creamed another superb knock against Australia during the first semifinal of the tournament and has carried his side to the final of the event at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Kohli came into the tournament with a lot of baggage of not doing well in the longest format during the five-match Test series in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. The right-handed batter managed just 191 runs in nine innings at an average of 23.75, shouldering on a century that he made during the second innings of the opening Perth Test.
Virat Kohli carries India home with a classic knock of 84 runs vs Australia
India didn’t make a great start in the 265-run chase, losing both the captain, Rohit Sharma, and the opening batter, Shubman Gill. The onus was on Virat Kohli to stay till the end and shoulder the side over the line.

Kohli smashed his first boundary of the evening against Nathan Ellis as he chipped the short ball over the mid-off region for a comfortable boundary. When the same bowler got a ball down the leg side of the Delhi batter, he smashed it behind the square leg and found the gap in the deep region for the same result.
Virat Kohli didn’t leave the full and down-the-leg delivery from Tanveer Sanga and clubbed it through short fine leg for another boundary as they crossed the 100-run mark. With another four runs pulled back foot against Adam Zampa through deep square leg, the veteran celebrated his 74th half-century in the 50-over format.
Zampa went short at the stumps, and Kohli pulled the ball over the midwicket region for the same result. The former Indian captain ended with an 84-run knock in 98 deliveries, thanks to five boundaries, as they chased down the score with four wickets in hand. It could have been a century had he not tried the wild slog towards the end to finish things off quickly.
Watch: Anushka Sharma found taking a nap during the semifinal
It was a hilarious moment when Virat Kohli’s wife, Anushka Sharma, was caught off guard as he was slipping when her husband was batting in the middle in a pressurized situation. This was during the 15th over of the innings when the incident happened, as the batter was unbeaten on 18 runs in 28 balls.
Even though the fans are predicting their choice teams for India’s final opponent, Kohli wants the side to relax and recover well in the four days as they will take the field on March 09 in the final at the Dubai ground.

“It's a very high-pressure tournament; you go through so many emotions through the game. It's always nice to have some time off and relax, and then think about the final. We've got some time in between, which is always nice. We'll think about what we need to do then, but for tomorrow, just try to relax.” Kohli expressed.

India eyes another Virat Kohli special in the final
When Virat Kohli drilled that unbeaten century against Pakistan, it was known that he would contribute more in the event, and he carried the same form in the semifinal.
That’s the thing with the good players. Once they get their hands in, they continue to stand up in crunch moments, and the Indian side will hope to see the best of the veteran once more in the final against the winner of the second semifinal between New Zealand and South Africa.
