High-intense drama continues in the 2025 season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during the game between Multan Sultans and Islamabad United when the opening batter, Colin Munro, accused the off-spinner, Iftikhar Ahmed, of chucking the ball.

The incident took place during the tenth over of the Islamabad innings when they were chasing a low score of 169 runs. Instantly, Ahmed fumed and appealed to the square-leg umpire regarding the accusation. Later, the entire Multan side, including the captain, Mohammed Rizwan, went after Colin Munro.

Iftikhar Ahmed tried to aim the second ball of the tenth over onto the surface as Colin Munro punched it on the back foot through the extra cover region for a boundary. On the very next delivery, he fired into the blockhole as the batter hit it back to the spinner.

Munto gestured something to the spinner with his hands, giving a sign of chucking the ball. Iftikhar didn’t take the matter lightly and turned to the umpire to complain. Rizwan also walked from the cover region and asked the batter to bat. The umpires also intervened and asked the players to carry on with the game.

It’s awkward as the batters generally won’t have any right to question the bowling action of the opponent, and it would be the umpire’s job to examine the entire progress. But on the other hand, now that Colin Munro has raised the issue, the umpires are likely to check the footage multiple times to get the right picture.

The very next ball after the incident was darted into the blockhole again, and the batter jammed it onto the pad, and the ball stayed in the crease.

Colin Munro-Andries Gous shoulder Islamabad to their fifth successive PSL 2025 victory

Chasing 169 runs on a surface where batting got a bit easier in the second innings, Islamabad lost their opener, Sahibzada Farhan, early in the innings. However, the wicket-keeper batter, Andries Gous, and New Zealand’s Colin Munro shared a strong 81-run stand for the second wicket in the chase.

The Kiwi southpaw nailed 45 runs in 28 balls, shouldering on five boundaries and two sixes at a strike rate of 160.71, before getting dismissed by Michael Bracewell into the hands of Iftikhar Ahmed.

But Gous remained unbeaten on 80 runs in 45 balls, thanks to six boundaries and five sixes at a strike rate of 177.78 to carry the side over the winning margin. The United chased down the score quite comfortably with nearly three overs to spare and seven wickets in hand.

With their fifth consecutive win in as many games, Islamabad stayed at the top spot with a net run rate of +2.342. They will enjoy a week off before their next encounter of the edition at the Gaddafi Stadium against the Lahore Qalandars.

Multan Sultans struggle with first-inning batting

Opting to bat first in back-to-back games, Multan couldn’t make the same impact with the bat. Their captain, Rizwan, struggled with 36 runs in 37 deliveries, while Yasir Khan clubbed 29 runs in 17 balls at a strike rate of 170.59.

With the fourth defeat in five games, Multan stays at the bottom of the points table with a net run rate of -1.764.
