The former Indian middle order batter, Ambati Rayudu, and the former coach for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Sanjay Bangar, were engaged in a heated argument between them over the franchise’s success before the 2025 season.

The Bengaluru franchise decided to appoint a new captain, Rajat Patidar, for the upcoming edition as they ended their relationship with Faf du Plessis. Most of their fans speculated that Virat Kohli could be back in leading the side, but the franchise decided to monitor the future.

Rayudu and Bangar were working for the Star Sports commentary during the final of the Champions Trophy 2025 between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. That was the moment when Bangar stated that RCB had been the consistent team over the last four years by entering the playoffs.

Rayudu was quick to give a reply to Bangar and wondered if that means the franchise would qualify for the second qualifier of the 20-over league in the new season. Bangar gave a warning to the former CSK batter by reminding him of his old statement on thePlay Bold Army.

“So what? Let them watch. Are you threatening me? Anyway, love for RCB fans.Ambati replied.

In a recent podcast, Rayudu roasted the Bengaluru side by stating that the 2016 runners-up won’t need to wait longer before winning the first title, but he would pray to make sure that it doesn’t happen this year.

Last year on many occasions, the veteran slammed the franchise for their overjoyed celebration for beating the Chennai Super Kings in a group-stage encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He also pointed out that the senior members of the side had eaten up many deliveries at the top, putting incredible pressure on the lower and middle order to do the bulk of the task.

RCB’s roller-coaster journey in IPL 2024

The opening game for the Bengaluru side was against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side, where they faced a six-wicket defeat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. After their opening victory of the season against Punjab by four wickets, they failed to win a single game for the next one month and six games.

The last of the cycle came against Kolkata by one run at the Eden Gardens. That was nearly the end of the journey but they turned the table with six back-to-back victories in the group-stage. Two of those wins came at a large margin by 60 and 47 runs against Punjab and Delhi.

RCB was required to pocket a victory against Chennai by 27 runs, and that ensured their qualification in the playoffs. But they couldn’t repeat the same performance in the Eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals by four wickets.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru to start IPL 2025 Campaign on March 22

The RCB side will face the Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening game of the IPL 2025 on March 22 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They will then travel to Chennai.

Their first game at home will be against the Gujarat Titans on April 02, before they will again travel to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The final of the 2025 edition will take place on May 25 at the Eden Gardens as the same ground will also host the second qualifier.
