Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis sent congratulations to Rajat Patidar, who was announced as the new captain of the RCB franchise ahead of IPL 2025.

Rajat Patidar, a 31-year-old middle-order batsman, has been named the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the next Indian Premier League season. The franchise announced an event at the KSCA on Thursday (February 13).

After releasing Faf du Plessis, who had captained the side in previous seasons, the Bengaluru franchise was without a captaincy contender for the 2025 season. Patidar, who led Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final earlier this season, would be the eighth player to captain RCB.

Ex-captain Faf du Plessis, who led RCB to playoffs in IPL 2022, 2023, and 2024, sent a message via RCB, congratulating Rajat Patidar on the new responsibility. The video was played during the RCB event and was shared by RCB on social media.

"Hi Rajat! I'm so happy to congratulate you on being the new RCB captain. I'm officially passing the baton over to you. It's a great honor captaining any IPL team, and it is really special being the captain of RCB as it is truly a great fanbase, and you'll see they will be always there to support you all the way,” Du Plessis said in a video on X.

Patidar's IPL career reached its height under du Plessis' captaincy. He struck a century for RCB in the 2022 season's Eliminator against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), cementing his place in the team.

In the second portion of the same video, Faf du Plessis stated that the RCB coaching group and leadership team will always be there to assist the new captain Rajat Patidar.

"Also, the coaching staff is there with their experience to guide you and make sure that you find your feet and have a great time captaining. And lastly, you have a great leadership group that will be there with you to support you all the way, so make sure you lean on them because it will help you when times get tough," he added.
