The former Indian opening batter, Virender Sehwag, has once again mocked the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) despite the franchise’ superb start in the new edition with two successive victories. Rajat Patidar’s army is at the top of the points table currently.

Sehwag roasted thePlay Bold’ army by claiming that it would be a matter of time for the franchise to stay at the top of the points table. He reckoned that their fans should take a picture of the current standing as well.

“Gareebon ko bhi rehne dein. Photo le thodi der (Let the poor guys also stay at the top of the table for some time and take a picture of it). Pata nahi kitni der gareeb log upar rahenge (Not sure for how much time they will stay on the top).” Virender Sehwag expressed on the show along with the former national batter, Manoj Tiwary.

“In terms of revenue, every franchise is rich. Every franchise earns 500 crores in profit. I am calling them poor as they haven't won any trophies so far. Very few people understand what I try to say.He added.

RCB has finished as the tournament's runners-up three times in the league's history but hasas yet to taste victory.

RCB’s superb start in the IPL 2025

Many expected the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, to go through a comfortable victory against the 2016 runners-up at the Eden Gardens. But the Ajinkya Rahane-led side had a terrible time in the first six overs of the inning.

Josh Hazlewood and Yash Dayal broke Kolkata’s back in the first three overs. When Rahane and Sunil Narine aggressively looked to smash the big shots around the park, Rajat Patidar introduced Krunal Pandya into the attack. The left-arm spinners picked up three wickets to bandage the flow of runs.

Suyash Sharma sent back Andre Russell to restrict the home side to a low score. The 95-run opening stand between Kohli and Phil Salt spoiled the party for the Knight Riders as they chased down the score with seven wickets in hand.

In the following encounter at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Bengaluru had another superb start. But they struggled in the middle overs despite Patidar’s half-century. It was Tim David’s successive three sixes against Sam Curran that shouldered them to a respectable score at the end.

Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar picked up three wickets in the first six overs during CSK’s chase to keep RCB ahead in the contest. The home side’s middle order didn’t have the quality and power to carry them over the line as RCB earned their first IPL victory against Super Kings in Chennai since 2008.

RCB’s title drought in IPL

The franchise has performed well in the past but has yet to reach the final. During the 2009 season, they lost against the Deccan Chargers before repeating the same performance against Chennai in 2011.

The 2016 season looked fabulous for them, but they again failed to chase the score against the Sunrisers Hyderabad despite being ahead in the contest.

RCB’s biggest issue has been their bowling performance at the home venue, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where they will face the Gujarat Titans in their next clash of the league on April 02, 2025.
