Ishant Sharma is one of the rare players of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to play in the very first season in 2008 and the 18th edition of the tournament.
He is known for his fiery spell of bowling and showing celebration on the face of the batter. The pacer did that exactly during the 14th encounter of the event at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 02.

Bengaluru, losing the toss, walked into bat. They lost Virat Kohli and Virat Kohli early in the innings, to be under tremendous pressure in the first couple of overs. Mohammed Siraj extended his incredible performance by disturbing the stumps of Devdutt Padikkal on four runs in three balls.

Ishant Sharma, who was decent for the Gujarat Titans during the previous contest against the Mumbai Indians, came into the attack as the fourth-changed bowler. But on the very first over, he dismissed the RCB captain, Rajat Patidar.
It was a pitched-up delivery from Ishant Sharma just on the good length area around the middle and leg. The Madhya Pradesh batter looked to play it across the line, and once he missed that, it was straight on the back leg before the stumps.
There was no hesitation in the umpire’s mind as he raised the finger straightaway. Ishant Sharma erupted in joy and took the upper hand for the visiting side against Bengaluru. Patidar was not sure, but he didn’t have the confidence to challenge the decision to go back to the pavilion for 12 runs in 12 balls, shouldering on two boundaries.
After taking Rajat’s scalp, the Delhi pacer looked at the sky and threw a few words to Patidar before nearly shouldering the batter as he was passing him.

Ishant Sharma writes history with rare milestones
Ishant Sharma has scripted history after Patidar’s dismissal. The veteran has now achieved the milestone of dismissing the first and present captain of a franchise in the history of the league.
Back in 2008, the lanky pacer, during the inaugural edition of the tournament, dismissed the former RCB captain, Rahul Dravid, in the very first over of the spell. Back then, he was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Fast forward to 2025, playing for the Titans, Ishant dismissed Rajat Patidar. Despite the wickets, he didn’t have a great outing, finishing with figures of 1/27 in two overs.
Gujarat Titans blow away RCB with an eight-wicket victory
Once Bengaluru lost three wickets in the powerplay, they were not expected to go for a huge score. In 12.4 overs, they found themselves at 94/5. Jitesh Sharma was the last man to go for 33 runs in 21 balls, shouldering on five boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 157.14.
But Liam Livingstone and Tim David were on a different mission. The England all-rounder nailed 54 runs in 40 balls, thanks to five sixes and one boundary, while the Australian batter cracked 32 runs in just 18 balls. They finished with 169/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, GT lost Gujarat early in the innings. But the 75-run stand between Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan offered them the winning platform. The England wicket-keeper batter remained unbeaten on 73 runs in 39 balls at a strike rate of 187.18. Sherfane Rutherford cracked 30 runs in 18 balls at a strike rate of 166.67.
The 2023 champions earned an eight-wicket victory to climb to the fourth position in the points table.
