Ex-New Zealand captain Kane Williamson oversmarted a Pakistani journalist, who asked him about Pakistan’s Babar Azam’s status in the ‘Fab Five’ batters of the world. He praised the right-hander as a world-class player and stated that he enjoyed seeing him play.

Babar Azam, widely regarded as one of Pakistan cricket's top players, has struggled to hit runs. The right-hander has struggled to get going against spinners, which has concerned the squad.

In the present Tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand, Babar Azam had a poor performance in the opening match. The right-hander was asked to open the innings, but he struggled, scoring only 10 runs off 23 balls in a 330-run chase against the Kiwis.

With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 approaching, Babar Azam has received a lot of criticism. However, he will have a few more games to reclaim his form before the tournament, and if he does, it will be a huge boost for the Pakistan National Cricket Team in the eight-nation event.

Kane Williamson calls Babar Azam ‘world-class’

Kane Williamson called Babar Azam a world-class player and said the title of being in the Fab Four or Five isn't something he looks into.

"Look, I mean, Babar's a world-class player and, you know, those sorts of titles aren't something that, you know, give a lot of attention to. And, you know, for me, it's much more about trying to do the job as best you can for the team, always looking to improve, and, you know, it was nice to be out there today and be a part of this tri-series, and we're looking forward to the tournament,” Williamson said.

Kane Williamson, while advising Babar Azam, stated that players always attempt new things and look to adapt to their game. He stated that watching the Pakistan batter play is enjoyable and that he will soon find his groove.

"But I think as cricketers, when you play for periods of time, you're always navigating different things and always sort of adapting your game and Babar and all other players are no different, but he's an absolute class act and it's always a pleasure to watch him play and that rhythm's always so close with world-class players like Babar,” he said.
