Dinesh Karthik And MS Dhoni

Dinesh Karthik, a former Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Royal Challengers Bangalore coach, has taken a swipe at MS Dhoni, who continues to play in the IPL despite battling fitness difficulties and poor bat form.

Karthik discussed his choice to quit the game and how he knew when to stop playing. The RCB mentor explained that when he felt he couldn't give his all, both physically and psychologically, he opted to retire from the game.

But what drew everyone's attention was the subtle jab at his former India and CSK captain, MS Dhoni, which highlighted his desire to remain in the spotlight for longer than necessary.

However, Dinesh Karthik has not used MS Dhoni's name but has implied that some players are struggling to accept their new role in the game.

“I knew that I couldn't represent the country anymore. I knew that my training would not be the same as it could be. When I can’t give the same intensity or the same time and energy required for the excel, then I thought that’s enough. I believe that you should leave this sport when people ask why not when. So that also played a part,” Dinesh Karthik said on the RCB podcast.

The former Indian wicketkeeper also underlined the significance of understanding one's role in the system and not expecting preferential treatment based on prior accomplishments, launching another assault on MS Dhoni, who has won everything as captain in both international and IPL competitions.

“People get the respect because of the place where they are. As long as you understand your place in the whole ecosystem, you will be happy. But the moment you think you are a big deal and people are doing things constantly because of who you are, and you come out of that space, that’s the biggest challenge. People are respecting you and treating you because of everything around the space,” Dinesh Karthik added.
