On the second day of the tenth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Mohammad Amir, the veteran left-arm pacer, and the opening batter, Saim Ayub, exchanged a heated on-field conversation. The incident took place at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium during the fixture between Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi.
Mohammed Amir, who has already opted for British citizenship, could make an appearance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the future.
Watch: Mohammad Amir and Saim Ayub engaged in a verbal fight
On the very first ball of Peshawar’s chase, Mohammad Amir went with a big swinging delivery at Saim Ayub. The southpaw, who missed the home tri-series and Champions Trophy due to injury, marked his return in the 20-over franchise event. He missed the big short before opening his account on the very next ball.

On the fourth ball of the over, the 33-year-old pacer threw a good length delivery at Ayub. The ball jagged back early and cut the batter in half, beating the outside edge of the willow.
Mohammad Amir kept on exchanging words with the opener. The microphone didn’t pick up the conversation, but both players were unhappy with the discussion. Later, Ayub nailed Shoaib Malik for a six straight down the ground. He pulled Faheem Ashraf into the stand beyond deep mid-wicket to celebrate his 50.
He returned to the pavilion with the same score in 38 balls, thanks to three boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 131.58.

Mohammad Amir sends back Babar Azam for a two-ball duck
Mohammed Amir provided early success to the Gladiators with the huge wicket of Babar Azam. The former Pakistani captain came into the tournament under so much scrutiny after being dropped from the national side’s T20I squad. However, he couldn’t open his account in two balls.
Amir went with a fuller delivery that angles outside off and lured the batter forward. But the slowness of the surface held it a bit and came up with a tinge of extra bounce. Babar ended up pushing at the delivery and chipped it straight to the waiting short cover fielder, Rilee Rossouw.
Mohammad Amir came back to pick up the final wicket of the innings. Mitchell Owen, who came into the league after a fabulous Big Bash League (BBL) 2024/25 for making the Hobart Hurricanes champions, looked to clear the front leg and whip the length ball for a distance.
But he didn’t get the elevation right, as the ball went straight in the air. Kusal Mendis, the wicket-keeper batter, called for the catch, running across towards the backward point, held onto the skier to send the batter back for 31 runs in 13 balls.
Mohammad Amir ends his spell with 2/11 in 2.1 overs.
Quetta Gladiators script an 80-run victory
Winning the toss, Zalmi decided to bowl first. The 88-run opening stand between Quetta captain Saud Shakeel, who nailed 59 runs in 42 balls, and Finn Allen (53 runs in 25 balls) provided them with a very good start. Kusal Mendis drilled 35 unbeaten runs in 14 balls to shoulder them to 216/3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Zalmi kept on losing wickets at regular intervals throughout the chase. Only three batters, Owen, Ayub, and Hussain Talat, made it into the double figures with the bat. The Gladiators blew away the Zalmi for just 136 runs on the board in 15.1 overs to earn a heavy 80-run victory to begin their campaign.
Abrar Ahmed finished with 4/42, while Usman Tariq claimed 2/26 in four overs.
