Mohammad Amir, a former fast bowler for Pakistan, made a significant comment shortly before the PSL 2025 season began. The left-arm bowler said that if he is granted UK citizenship, he would rather play in the IPL than the PSL the next season.

In the tenth PSL season, Mohammad Amir will play for the Quetta Gladiators. On April 12, Quetta will play Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi to kick off the PSL 10 campaign. Due to his UK citizenship, the former Pakistani cricket player may be able to participate in the Indian Premier League next season.

Since 2008, when the Mumbai terror attacks occurred, Pakistani cricket players have not participated in the Indian Premier League.

The league's first season featured participation from a number of celebrities, including Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, and Sohail Tanvir. None of them have participated in the IPL after 2008, however, some have taken on mentoring responsibilities.

Mohammad Amir’s chances of playing in the IPL

The spouse of Mohammad Amir is Narjis, a citizen of the United Kingdom. He might be able to obtain a British passport, which would allow him to play in the IPL.

Having taken 364 wickets in 318 games, the bowler has an outstanding record in T20Is. Throughout his career, Amir participated in 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is for Pakistan.

The 32-year-old cricket player recalled a time when he received a bat as a token of appreciation from former Indian captain Virat Kohli. Interestingly, because he is British, Azhar Mahmood is still the only cricketer from Pakistan to play in the IPL after 2008.

If the IPL and PSL were held at the same time, the following season, Amir was recently asked if he would want to play in either competition. The pacer with the left arm answered bluntly. If given the chance, Amir stated that he would like to play in the IPL.

"If the PSL happens in the same window as the IPL, and as a British citizen, you're eligible for the IPL, would you choose the IPL?” Amir was asked.

“Honestly, if I get the opportunity, I'll definitely play in the IPL. I'm saying this openly. But if I don't get a chance, then I will play in the PSL,” Amir said.
