During the most recent IPL 2025 match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), MS Dhoni generated excitement with an odd event. After approaching the umpire and obtaining the bat gauge, the seasoned CSK captain personally ran his bat through it.
At the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 3, Royal Challengers Bengaluru upset Chennai Super Kings by a margin of just two runs. After losing the toss, RCB managed to register a respectable total of 213/5. Despite having a strong start in the chase, the MS Dhoni-led squad ended the thrilling match with 211/5.
MS Dhoni’s tactical acumen questioned after CSK’s loss
With just four points, the Chennai Super Kings sit at the bottom of the standings. Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury forced MS Dhoni to take over as captain, and the team has only won once in six games. As the competition approaches its pivotal stage, they have lost four straight games.
Dhoni has come under fire for his choices during the game. In the 19th over, Khaleel Ahmed, who had given up 32 runs in his opening two overs, was reintroduced into the assault. Khaleel let up 33 runs in that over, therefore, the move backfired. He finished the game with figures of 0-65 in 3 overs.
MS Dhoni himself has his bat checked for size after the umpire fails
When MS Dhoni arrived at the crease following the dismissal of Dewald Brevis in the seventeenth over, the incident occurred.
The gauge didn't go through cleanly when the on-field umpires first measured Dhoni's bat. After adjusting his bat and taking the gauge himself, Dhoni scraped his bat through the device twice. The match was allowed to restart once the umpire gave him the all-clear to bat.

On the fifth delivery of the penultimate over, Dhoni hit a six. He was unable to assist the squad in chasing down 15 runs off the last over, though. On the third delivery, the wicketkeeper-batter was out. After scoring 12 runs off 8 balls, Dhoni accepted full responsibility and acknowledged his shortcomings.
