With the mid-season injury of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, to be ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the franchise decided to hand over the leadership duties to the five-time title-winning leader, MS Dhoni.
The former Indian wicket-keeper batter shared a funny moment with the former CSK bowlers, Deepak Chahar, during the pre-match net session before the clash against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.

On the eve of the high-intense fixture, Dhoni was batting in the CSK nets at the iconic stadium. During that, he playfully ran towards the former teammate to hit him with a bat.

Chahar was continuously trying to poke MS Dhoni during the pre-match practice, after which the 43-year-old marched towards him with the blade in hand. The video of the hilarious moment between the two players went viral as CSK shared it on their ‘X’ account.
It was the second part of the incident. During the opening clash of both sides of the 2025 season at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chahar was trying to sled the former captain when he arrived at the crease towards the end of the chase.
At the end of the game, as the players were shaking hands and acknowledging each other’s performance, Dhoni hit Chahar with the bat playfully.
Under the former leader, Chahar spent his two years in the Rising Pune Supergiants during the 2016 and 2017 seasons of the league before Chennai signed him from the 2018 season. Dhoni used to attack the opponent side with the pacer’s three overs in the powerplay with the new ball, where the Rajasthan-born contributed with early wickets in the game to keep them ahead.

MS Dhoni’s performance vs the Mumbai Indians in IPL history
MS Dhoni has a decent record against the Mumbai franchise in the league. In 43 games he has featured for CSK and RPS, the right-handed batter has nailed 768 runs in 37 innings at an average of 36.57 and a strike rate of 131.28, notching three half-centuries at the best score of unbeaten 63 runs.
When it comes to his performance in the league at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, the veteran has clubbed 412 runs in 23 innings at an average of 27.47 and a strike rate of 120.82, thanks to the best score of an unbeaten 50 runs.
This 2025 season has been different for MS Dhoni, who has pushed himself a lot deeper in the batting department. As their head coach has revealed in many press conferences, they want to use the batter for the last five overs of the innings, where he could simply whack from the very first ball.
The Ranchi-born has smacked 130 runs in seven innings so far with the best score of 137.98. His fantastic knock in the previous game against Lucknow Super Giants carried them over the winning margin.
Mumbai Indians aim to take revenge on CSK
In the first encounter of the two sides in the 2025 season, Mumbai tried their best to suffocate the Super Kings in the 156-run chase, but Rachin Ravindra’s unbeaten knock of 65 runs in 45 balls took them home by four wickets.

On the other hand, Hardik Pandya’s army is at seven with three victories in seven games, at a net run rate of +0.239.
