Pakistan has made a huge blunder during the match between England and Australia in the ongoing Champions Trophy. The current incident may not come in the right spirits as they mistakenly played India’s national anthem during the fixture between England and Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

Both the Jos Butler and Steve Smith-led side are starting a campaign in the eight-team tournament. They didn’t enjoy a great time in the 50-over format recently, with clean sweeps in India and Sri Lanka, respectively.

Australia’s captain, Steve Smith, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a flat Lahore surface, keeping in mind the potential dew that they met in the last practice session. England’s captain was not sure about the decision but felt that he would have bowled first.

Both teams lined up for the national anthem. ‘God Save the King’ of England was the first one to be played. After its completion, Australia’s national anthem was about to start. However, the authorities made a mistake and played India’s national song as the crowd erupted in surprise.

All the fans on the ground raised their voice, and the authorities realized their mistake soon and stopped the song. They were quick to rectify that and later played Australia’s national song, Advance Australia Flair. It was an unexpected incident on the ground, and the ICC may keep an eye on the process.

The blunder was caught on camera. Later, the game started without any hindrance.

Controversies on Pakistan hosting Champions Trophy 2025

The series of incidents followed in the Champions Trophy 2025, as a lot of controversies took place. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was not prepared to accept the hybrid model for the eight-team tournament as they wanted India to trip in this part of the world and be featured in the competition.

However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrote a letter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the PCB to inform them the decision of not to travel to the other side of the border. Later, the governing body selected the Dubai International Cricket Stadium for all of India’s games in the competition.

The PCB was not happy with the decision but had to compromise in the end. They will now have to make the trip to Dubai for the clash against India in the Champions Trophy. Questions were also raised on the renovation work of the grounds, as the delayed process pushed the ICC to keep the two other grounds ready for the competition.

India to meet Pakistan on February 23

India had a great preparation for the tournament with a 3-0 clean victory over England at home. Their batters got runs under their belt, while the bowlers gained confidence with wickets in their game. They started the ICC event with a cracking six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Dubai by six wickets with 21 balls to spare.

Pakistan, on the other hand, had a tough time in 2025 in the 50-over format. They lost the home tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side failed to chase 321 runs in Karachi against the Blackcaps.

Both teams are in a contrasting position. A victory for the Blue Brigade will qualify them for the semifinal of the tournament, while a defeat for Pakistan will be the end of the tournament. Eyes will be on Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Babar Azam, and Shaheen Afridi’s performance in the fixture.
