Pat Cummins "Heavily Unlikely" For Australia in ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The 31-year-old's leadership credentials have improved since his 2023 World Cup victory, when Australia defeated India in the final. Before that, he led Australia to the World Test Championship victory. He also led SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the IPL 2024 final.
Cummins has been one of Australia's decorated captains
Cummins helped Australia reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a 10-year absence. Cummins, however, is now "heavily unlikely" to lead Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy, despite his involvement in a promotional campaign. According to coach Andrew McDonald, Cummins may not participate in the event.
The Champions Trophy will feature eight teams and 15 matches across Pakistan and Dubai. India and Australia are the only teams to have won the tournament twice, with the Indian cricket team winning in 2002 (shared with Sri Lanka) and 2013, and Australia clinching back-to-back titles in 2006 and 2009.
