The England v Australia ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match that was played in Lahore witnessed a shocking incident. The PCB officials were captured on camera beating and arresting a fan for having an Indian flag in his possession.

It is no secret that political tensions, border disputes, and previous hostilities have strained India-Pakistan relations. The two nations occasionally make an effort to strengthen their ties, but Pakistan's border violations and terrorism prevent it from happening.

Since the teams only play each other in multi-nation tournaments, the chilly relations between India and Pakistan have also had a long-standing impact on cricket. Due to cricket security concerns, the BCCI declined to send Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which created a great deal of fuss.

PCB security beats a fan and takes him away for having Indian flag with him

The most recent instance demonstrated why the Indian government was opposed to allowing the Men in Blue to cross the border for the present renowned event after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was forced to move India's matches to Dubai.

In fact, on February 22, during Australia's and England's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group match, tragic events took place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. In the widely shared video, a fan was arrested and physically assaulted by Pakistani security forces in Lahore for raising the Indian flag.

The fan was allegedly assaulted for raising the Indian flag at Gaddafi Stadium. Social media users were outraged by this occurrence, supporting the BCCI's decision to not send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan.

PCB has not yet responded to the situation. It would be intriguing to observe how the ICC and Pakistani board will defend the tournament security staff's conduct.

Pakistan team's reputation at stake after early exit from Champions Trophy

In the meantime, the Pakistani cricket team lost both of their games in the current ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and their hopes of reaching the semifinals were dashed after New Zealand demolished Bangladesh by five wickets in their second group encounter in Rawalpindi.

Men in Green would play only for their pride in their last group match against Bangladesh on February 27 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Following Pakistan's dismal showing in the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy at home, PCB is reportedly concerned about losing its sponsors and brand value.

“People are losing interest in the mega event, broadcasters are showing half-filled stadiums, etc. And the biggest worry is, despite the craze for cricket here, it may not be easy to sell Pakistan cricket as a brand in the future.

Mohsin Naqvi’s (PCB chief) focus appeared to be on just the upgrade of the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, whereas he forgot that the most important thing was to have a team that could make it to the final in the Champions Trophy because fans relate to performances,” PCB source said.
