India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja beat Rohit Sharma to win the ‘Best Fielder’ medal after India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 title in Dubai on Sunday, March 9. The Indian team management awarded the Best Fielder medal in the dressing room after their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final win against New Zealand.
On March 9, during the last match in Dubai, India's fielders missed four catches. In the field, the Men in Blue struggled. In New Zealand's innings, Rohit Sharma also lost a tough chance, and Mohammed Shami, Shreyas Iyer, and Shubman Gill all missed catching opportunities.
Ravindra Jadeja has been showing top stuff: T Dilip
India's fielding coach T. Dilip mentioned Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja as medal contenders in a post-match fielding ceremony video posted on Instagram by the BCCI. Before declaring Jadeja the winner, Dilip praised the two players for their exceptional on-field performances.
"Let's get to the contenders. I think he has been showing top stuff today in his own bowling. But the way he chased the ball today, getting those bullet throws and also cutting those angles—Ravindra Jadeja.
I think last time when we spoke about skill and will, someone who really displays it all the time when he is on the field. Not only on the field but also with his leadership qualities. The way he is putting in those dives and catching—that's Rohit Sharma," T Dilip said in the BCCI video.
A key contributor to the Champions Trophy 2025 triumph was Ravindra Jadeja. With both bat and ball, the 36-year-old cricket player made a contribution. The left-arm spinner was very frugal with the ball, giving up only 30 runs in 10 overs. Additionally, he dismissed Tom Latham as well.
He was still undefeated at nine runs with the bat. Following Hardik Pandya's dismissal, the southpaw joined KL Rahul and scored the game-winning runs to win the championship.
"We are champions”- T Dilip
During the Champions Trophy, T. Dilip again commended the team's dedication and solidarity. Every player contributed to winning the title, so no effort on the field was too small, he said. On the field, players showed both intensity and teamwork, the fielding coach continued.
"I think if you really look at the whole tournament, there is one takeaway. I feel it is this—that no effort on the field was ever too small. Why I say this is because every single commitment on the field was fueling a common goal. And tonight, the goal is right in front of us.
We are champions. Fielding is two sides of the same coin. On one side, we always talk about intensity, aggression, attitude, and reflexes. On the other side, we always speak about camaraderie, trust, and the brotherhood between each other. And together, that's what we displayed throughout this tournament—as brothers and with intensity. Well done, guys," Dilip said.
